Rolex 5512 unusual dial
Hello , I'm interested in this 5512 with this rare(?) two last lines silver writing dial. I live in France and never saw a similar dial. I'll be very happy if someone could give me a fair opinion. Thank you very much and Happy Easter.

Hi,
Well i'm getting the impression that you haven't researched the 5512 enough. You might be confusing with the 5513 which usually only has the two liner, without the COSC mark. However in the 5512 range, you see the COSC mark quite often. I can't put into numeric figures how common they are, but even a google image search shows that the last two lines are of no anomaly. If anything not having those two COSC lines make the watch much more desirable. Price differences between the two liners and non-two liners are immense, but then again it's just minor idiosyncratic value that nobody knows if it'll retain. Overall, I'd say don't worry about the COSC mark and purchase something that also buys your confidence. Good luck Joey. |

Its a good looking watch, but whether it is a good buy depends on the price and the prevailing prices for this model.
The last 2 lines (SCOC) are usual to find on the 5512 unless it is a very early model. The gilt dial models are more collectible. I think the last 2 lines on this model, the subject of your photograph, and in white writing if I am not mistaken.

thank you for all your comments. The asked price is around 8900$ no papers but the original box and a jeweller's bill from 2003.

Need more pics from more angles. What is the serial number?
Appears to have a service bezel insert and plexi. Case looks decent. Crown looks to be a 700/702. Rivet bracelet is a bonus especially if it is original

I feel there is room in that asking price for some negotiation. As said by others, the dial is "as expected".
If the serial number, bracelet, end links and clasp code all line-up as originally delivered and fit the date code stamped inside the caseback - then a nice one to pursue. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

suite
I think I wasn't clear enough: the 2 first lines (200m...submariner) are in a white color, the 2 last lines (superlative....certified) in a silver color paint. At this moment I don't have more pictures, i'm waiting for. the watch is from 1966, original bracelet.

That appears to be a square crown guard case which is extremely rare.

Also, regarding the so-called "silver" text on the dial ... Is the OP sure it's silver and not just a lighter, thinner font that gives it that appearance? I thought only the earlier, gilt 5512s had the two-tone printing like that. OP, what is the beginning of the serial number of the watch? |

thank you for this explanation. Very interesting. I'm waiting for more details of the seller, after Easter probably, about good pictures and more details. I don't know the serial number, the seller says 1966.

Yes, there were both white and silver for the last two lines. I have a 1966-67 5512 1.56m serial that has the last two lines in silver. You can search the archive at VRF and there is a post in a thread abut the differing dials for these.

I have a '67 in pieces that I have been collecting and according to my research this "two-color" print dial is correct for 1967 as well.
Is the bracelet a Rolex with appropriate date code, or a C&I with appropriate date code? Either way, I'd love to have it! |

So could be good to have a rare case but bad to have a fraken. More likely, rounded crown guards that match the rest of the watch. Check the serial and inside of the caseback and make sure they're matching. |
