Fully Rolex serviced Seadweller 16660...decrease in value?

I just picked up this 1983 "666" Seadweller that had a full Rolex service including dial replacement, hand replacement, bezel replacement and crystal replacement (SWISS service dial and etched coronet with "S"). For all intents and purposes it is a brand new watch with older 3035 movement and 16660 case and serial.

I actually prefer the luminova markers that are visible when I wake up in the morning as opposed to the now dead tritium.

We all know that the matte dial 666s are very valuable, but how does the value hold up with all these "upgrades"?

Did you buy it like that or did you take a Matte dial and have a service one put in?

Purchased that way. I actually like the luminova markers.

Its a great watch, but Rolex degraded the value significantly when they "upgraded" it.

I don't know why it received all service parts...could be the watch was damaged or the like. Either way I have a great watch with modern facelift and vintage heritage. I'm cool with it (and the price was right).

Yup. Clearly worth much less than one in the original state. I'm not sure this watch would even equal the value of a stock 16600 - I'd certainly pay more for a newer correct watch.

I don't think the watch can be considered incorrect if the work was done by Rolex.

You're good, don't let all the vintage fanatics make you upset. If you like your watch - enjoy it!

Sure you can. It has been molested by Rolex. I'm glad you like it, but I would forget about value - this one will never fetch anything near market value for the reference.

I'm thinking older Chevelle with a set of Brembo Brakes, a stainless steel exhaust and a nice wheel , tire combo. Probably not as valuable as the original thing but more to my liking. Not into the whole vintage or old stuff thing myself.

$4150. It was a Craigslist sale where I met the seller at Dunkin Donuts. He was asking $6000, I got him down to $4500 before I ever met him. After some negotiations, I offered $4000. He came down to $4150, and I was in!

Funny thing is my watchmaker that I use was 1/2 mile away, he opened it up, saw it was in immaculate condition, pressure tested it and gave the band a nice satin finish. No charge.

For a watch you intend to wear and enjoy, I think you paid a fine price. 👍

Congratulations Peter. Restoring to original is not always the be all and end all, especially if you just want a decent daily wearer.

Enjoy it

Happy to have the date and luminescence that works. I have been wearing my Dad's 14060 for sentimental reasons but the lack of date and inability to read the time in the dark have driven me nuts!
