Supply/Demand vs desire

Just curious, does the supply/demand for some models make you think you want them, even if you might not like their looks otherwise?

For example, the D-Blue DSSD. When it initially came out, I didn't care for it, but now I find myself interested in it, even though I already have a Mk I DSSD.

Or do you think it just takes time to warm up to new pieces?

I always seem to come back to my initial decisions.

Initially I thought D-Blue DSSD was too "over the top"

I kinda wanted to like it, but, yeah, it is too over the top.

It's easy: don't give in to impulse wants. When watch acquisition syndrome kicks in just let that thought linger for a moment. If your daily browsing through the forums and watch sites is enough to rid it off after a few weeks then you'd probably want to flip it after not very long.

I like that thinking :-) "Catch and release". Sitting on stuff a while is always a good thing. I find that even then, the "rare" factor comes into play and I might still want something that I wouldn't normally. :-/

Many companies, including the watch industry, know about the psychology of supply/demand and will use that to their advantage for their bottom line. Some people want to get things that are hard to get/scarce and there are others who want to get what everyone else has, so as to not be left out/behind.

Couldn't have said it better myself... Waiting a few days is usually a good idea, there are very few decisions that "must" be made on the spot.... Its a good idea to use a "no purchases over $$$ ammount can be made on the spot" kind of situation, saves a lot of buyer remorse....

I don't impulse buy. If I'm meant to have it, it will eventually end up on my wrist.

I don't think it's necessarily supply/demand that does it for me. I know what I like, what will be comfortable on my wrist, and what I can afford.

The d-blue dssd is just too big for my small wrist. If they made an SD with that dial, I may have wanted that more than the original. Blue is my favorite color, so I always consider blue options if one is available in a particular model I like.

On the same token, any 2-tone is something I don't like and would never want it no matter how rare or expensive. Just not my style and probably will never be.

I think it impacts us all one way or another. It's hard not to get caught up. Just look at the Daytona-C frenzy.

Not for me I go with what I like as I have to look at it all day, the SS Daytona never really did it for me tho I was offered it as a "special" client, while I have bought other models that were decidedly not popular such as a Zenith Defy.

demand raises prices

To be honest with you and without ruffling your feathers my honest opinion is that people buying sports models are doing so to look cool and this is what raises the prices of the Daytona GMT and submariners.

I like to pick a watch out that gives me functionality when I was diving I bought a Submariner. When I was traveling I bought a GMT Master II. Now that I really don't need either I'm looking forward to to pick up a Jubilee two tone DJ 41mm when it's finally available in Canada which will probably be in five years the way things are going here Lol..

But seriously that's what the problem is and Rolex loves that problem
