Very Collectible 1966 Rolex Submariner 5513 Gilt Tropical Dial
Offered here a very collectible early Rolex Submariner 5513 dating to 1966.
Serial number 1.35 million. This watch has a very desirable meters first GILT DIAL. This dial is the correct one for this vintage. Gilt dial is one where some if not all the text and minute track is actually the surface of the highly polished metal of the dial. The original black background was then applied over. You can see this clearly here with the magnification, the text and minute track are lower than the background paint. The black paint has changed color, most likely due to long exposure to ultra violet light of sunlight. It is somewhat brown with some discoloration spots evenly spaced around. The luminous in the hands matches nicely the luminous of the hour markers which are in great shape. This aging of the dial surface is mostly due to the condition of the varnish covering of the dial. If you want one of these with a better dial with out any paint surface damage you will be expected to pay over $25,000 !!! This watch survived 50 years with this dial. Do you want to pay another $10,000 or more for a better paint? It is your money :) The watch is powered by an automatic Rolex movement cal. 1520. Comes with an original rivet bracelet model 7206 and #80 end pieces. Also included the original Rolex anchor 200/600. Please look at all the photos submitted here. The complete serial number photo will only be submitted to the buyer. Priced here at $15,000. The shipping on this item is $40 by FEDEX 2 day service. Payment by bank to bank wire transfer to our 17 year old Bank of America corporate account. I have been buying and selling collectible watches of all makes for over 26 years. Hundreds of worldwide references. |
