Yachtmaster platinum dial discontinued?

Hi,
Heard from my AD in Lebanon that the 40 mm Yachtmaster platinum dial and bezel was getting discontinued this year. Anyone heard this as well?
What do you think would happen to the resell price of this model?
Cheers.

Platinum dial is still around, and if it was discontinued I do not think the value will go up. Many thousands have been made over the years, and it is not exactly the most popular model.

The platinum dial is still on the website. The rhodium dial looks too wishy-washy for me but my head is being turned by the TT RG with chocolate dial.

I actually tried a platinum dial on yesterday. Been thinking about getting one for a while. My AD hadn't heard anything about it getting discontinued. I would be surprised if it did as it sort of the YM's "trademark" dial.

Here's a thread started by Larry on the Yacht-Master, good job..

http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=40684

I believe that they had a dial change on the newer one as it doesn't have the sand blasted look like the older ones. I find that I prefer the sand blasted look better, especially when the sun hits it. Not sure when it changed

The platinum dial is now gone from the website. Only the following six Y-M models seem to be available at present:

116655 Everose gold black dial 40mm on Oysterflex
268655 Everose gold black dial 37mm on Oysterflex
116622-003 Steel and platinum with rhodium dial
116622-001 Steel and platinum with blue dial
116655 Steel and Everose gold chocolate dial

Has anyone heard a confirmation from Rolex of the Y-M platinum dial 116622-002 being discontinued?

Yes the Platinum dial Rolex YM 116622 has been discontinued, Rolex sales here in the UK confirmed it after I had been told the same from the Rolex boutique in NYC a few weeks ago.
It will be interesting to see if it impacts on their resale value as they were never that popular but I know many on here including me always thought they were under rated/appreciated.

Thanks for confirming. I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a rarity to collectors a few years from now. Owning one has just become a little bit more special!

There she sits between her older brothers. I've flipped a TT Sub and TT Daytona as well as a BLNR. I just can't seem to part with that platinum dial.

Well I'm glad I bought mine when I did. Definitely a Rolex icon and a very distinctive design and looks beautiful when seen in real life. Pics never did do the watch justice IMHO.
I can only imagine prices for them will eventually rise. It was always a very undervalued watch second hand, much like the explorer is now, and looks every bit a modern classic still.
The sparkle on that platty dial in bright sunlight is so special and unique to the watch and is what gives it that special appeal.

I'm new here so the sight won't let me post any pictures until I have 10 posts.

Can a platinum YM bezel that is scratched & dinged up on both the polished & blasted areas be refinished? What would the approximate cost be?

Could/would Rolex replace it? Cost?

Welcome. You don't need to resurrect 9 old threads to ask the same question lol. As you saw in the other thread you replied to, it can be refinished. As for price to replace it I don't know, but someone who knows will answer eventually.

Sparkly to flat dial change happened when the 5-digit 16622 became 6-digit 116622 !

I have not heard this. As for price. Who knows, look at the 5 digit gmt literally tens of thousands must be out there and the prices are bananas. The YM is certainly more rare, but has not historically been as “popular”.

OP's question back in April 2016 was about the platinum dial 116622. It got discontinued in summer 2016. Preowned price has been steadily going up, but nowhere near the pace of hot sports steel pieces.

Oh. Lol. Well it’s a great watch and under appreciated in my opinion.

The platinum dial version of this watch has been discontinued for a while. This is really a shame because I felt that it was the best looking version of this watch. Hopefully, they will reintroduce the dial at some point.

That would be extremely tempting in a 42mm SS case as far as I'm concerned.

Sparkle Sand blast dial changed long before 6 digit came out. I want to say 2007/8

116622 models were available with the “sparkling” platinum dial. Was discontinued a few years ago. It’s one of the most beautiful dials Rolex has ever made.

Platinum dial has been gone from the website for a while now. I've checked in the past.

I would be really tempted to impulse-buy if I saw a YM 40 platinum dial NOS at an AD. I absolutely love the sand-blast texture of the dial. I have seen the 37mm model NOS at at least one AD in the last few months, but not the 40mm.
