Counter Clockwise date setting DJ

So I was setting the time and on my datejust and wasnt sure if I was in AM or PM so accidentally went over to the 23rd instead of the 22nd. I then turned the crown counter clockwise to get it back to 6pm and the date slowly turned back from the 23rd to the 22nd at around the 7/8pm mark (not instantly as it would when it flicks over at midnight).

Then when I clicked the crown back in 1 click to check if the date setting worked fine and it was stiff and wouldn't move from the 22nd. So then I pulled it back out to set the time again, spun it round to past 12pm, instant date change to 23rd, click it back in one and tried to set the date again an everything worked fine.

So I was wondering, does setting the time back counter clockwise multiple hours damage the movement or is this just a fault with my datejust?

TL;DR Set time too far so date changed > turned crown counter clockwise > date changed back > popped crown back to date change position > Could no longer change date as it was now stuck.

Normal or not? Does it happen with yours?

Edit: 2014 datejust 36mm btw

I've had this happen on occasion while setting "backward" and it has not resulted in damage or loss of function. I thought maybe some of the components had momentarily aligned in an unfavorable way, the way my cranky transmission on the bike sometimes behaves. I wouldn't be alarmed.

Does this also apply for the vintage models? On my 1655 the date is off most of the time because setting the date is too much of a chore.

This is movement dependant. 1655 have a 1575 when the OP DJ have a 3135.

1575 is a totally different movement with different interactions.
No date quickset feature for it so no dead zone risk by definition, and you can too turn the crown in the opposite way to set the date backward.

The difference is that for a 3135 the hands (and date) turn clockwise when you turn the crown clockwise , and for a 1575 the hands (and date) turn counter clockwise when you turn the crown clockwise.

My dad always warned us against turning the hands backwards and even at the AD where it was serviced they spent a few minutes setting the date.
So never too old to learn, or admit that your parents aren't the all knowing and infallible persons you always thought them to be:)

here's an extract of the booklet for a 1970's DateJust using the same movement generation than your 1655.

As you see Rolex don't avoid turning the hands CCW to set the date ...

Thanks, luckily I have an account so I downloaded it. German should be no problem. Spend four days a week in German for my work.
