Rolex Submariner Bezel Clicks

I was just wondering if the actual clicks of the Submariner Bezel rotating was a feature that is necessary for a Rolex to be genuine. I ran into a "Pepsi" GMT that wasn't making any type of click while rotating the bezel. Any information passed along is greatly appreciated!

Thank you TRF Community,

- MP

Bezel should click.

What if it doesn't? Is there a issue with the underside of the bezel?

Depends on the model. Older Sub and GMT Master bezels don't click.

As Adam said, depends on the year. Vintage used a friction fit bezel. The ratchting bezel made it's debut with the 16800.

GMTs do not make a clicking sound but you feel the notches. Subs (all modern) make 120 clicking sounds in a full rotation.

Or someone took the bezel off at some point and the spring popped out and was lost. This would allow for free spin.

There are a lot of things that can happen to a bezel and so "genuine" isn't really the question.

All sapphire crystal equipped bezels (Sub and GMT) should "click" but the clicker could be broken.

(as mentioned, earlier bezels should not click at all)

That's what I understood. My S series 16610 does click, so the clicking on the bezel has been in place for at least 20 years

My 1988 16800 Submariner does not click. My 2012 16610LN clicks too much IMHO. It's ok, my 2008 16628 (YM) clicks moderately and goes both ways, but I am from San Francisco.
