5000-1 odds, Leicester City

Guessing not many English football fans on the forums. But the English premiership just had it's biggest ever upset/fairytale.

Just 1 year ago Leicester were bottom of the league no hopers than just managed to avoid relegation. So this year were 5000-1(sports longest ever odds) to win. They conquered all, and were crowned champions last night.

The league has been dominated by the 4 richest teams for the last 20years - Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea.

Congrats,

Yep, many congrats to Leicester City. Last chance saloon for half of the squad, managed by a 64 year old who's never won a league title in his life. Claudio Rainieri's last match as a manager before taking over Leicester was in charge of the Greek national team and they lost to the, um, Faroe Islands.

Well done Leicester City

There's a story going around that Tom Hanks dropped $100 on that bet and won.

It was on Las Vegas news last night that somebody had placed a 4 digit bet on them before the season started...that's a nice payout! Congrats

He did say it, but I think it was just a joke as his team Aston Villa were relegated.

There is plenty of people that did have a few quid on it.

Mathematically one should put a quid on each team at seasons opening, don't you think?

Not if one of the favorite wins it as per usual. Then you just lose

I made the WRUW thread today about Leicester, and many members joined in with Bluesday. A great thing for all of us is that Vardy and Drinkwater and some others are English and hopefully they and Spurs' Kane and Ali continue their great form into the Euro's this summer. I'm really hopeful England might make the semis this year.

Really great effort. Been keeping an eye on this since around Christmas. Never thought they'd take it in the end. Fantastic.

A champion team beat the teams of champions. Shows the dream can come true, the fact there had been no first time winner since Notts Forrest in the 70's says a lot about it being a limited number of teams that routinely win, hopefully this signals Leicester joining that group, unlikely as it may be. Reminds of when Deportivo won in Spain.

If they can keep hold of their best players and their core group pretty much is the best in the league, then they can def challenge again. Man Utd and Arsenal are still fairly weak and Spurs are in a very similar position to LC, next year is really up for grabs. Guardiola's Man City will probably be the real tough ones but they might not gel.

There used to be a betting agency who gave 2500:1 for Kim Kardashian to be the next president of the US.
So, they thought it is twice as likely for KK to become the prez, than Leicester to win the title...

Friday night chat in the pub took on a new dimension.

Dude she's like Leicester city and you're more like Chelsea, you've got no chance.

G. Washington had Cornwallis' band play this at Yorktown at the final defeat of the British, but it is even more appropriate today.

If buttercups buzz'd after the bee,
If boats were on land, churches on sea,
If ponies rode men and if grass ate the cows,
And cats should be chased into holes by the mouse,
If the mamas sold their babies
To the gypsies for half a crown;
If summer were spring and the other way round,
Then all the world would be upside down.
