Daydreaming about PCCs again...
As between 5970G and 5970J, which do you prefer and why?
A few personal thoughts: 1. 5970J appears to have been the least produced having been in production for only 1 year and with approx. 450 produced vs. approx. 850 of the 5970G. 2. Yellow gold feels more vintage and timeless. White gold is more versatile and may stand the test of time better. 3. Yellow gold might have more character as opposed to white gold. These photos are taken from the net. market_image_2458568.jpg 13803833301_12260.jpg

God that's like saying do you love your eldest child or your youngest? :). They are both gorgeous and honestly different strokes for different times. Love em both- can't say I have a favorite.

Both are superb, but I would choose the YG for its timeless and classic looks. It would be an honor to own either one.

I'd get the G, simply because I prefer white metal.

Thanks. You know, I am not a fan of the R on this... I love rose gold (you and I seem to share that affliction ) but the case and dial make it a little too "pink" for me. Just personal taste of course. Thanks Russ. I thought I was convinced on the P, and something held me back... maybe timing was not right, and probably still isn't right for me now as I am having a baby next month, but I like to think. Cheers my friend.

Not a fan of yellow, so either a white metal or RG, though for a YG watch it still looks nice, but probably my least favorite combination possible

I am a fan of white metal watches. But the 5970J has that classic Patek look to it. Both are great looking watches - tough choice!

Agreed. Normally prefer white metal, and that 5970G on a brown strap is stunning. But there is something absolutely alluring about a Patek PC in yellow gold, especially one in which so little have been produced. But for versatility the white gold is hard to beat. Good luck.

Thanks boss. How would you say the 5970g compares to your first generation 5270 (if I remember correctly you have one, no?). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well said. In this reference my favorite is the P followed by the G. I owned both but flipped the G to get my 5204P. I didn't think I needed really 2 5970s. So I vote G, but you really can't go wrong with either. My opinion is that if you do decide to resell later on, you may do better owning white metal versus yellow at the same time that's reflected already in the purchase price as G sells for a bit more....

While I'm partial to white metals, I'll have to go with the YG on this occasion....like the classic looks and more limited production run.

For G, I really like the 5270 with blue dial, maybe most of all the gold PCCs.

J no question. Least produced of all the 5970's. 25 years from now that will matter in auction results.

If you are still alive in 25 years and you can eventually no longer read the date on the perpetual calendar because of your age, you have at least improved your pension... Personally I don't care for auction results in 25 years... |

ThomasPP, huge congratulations on the new baby. They sure put things in perspective!! Glad you held off on the P- if it doesn't feel right then it isn't the right time!
Without taking price, rarity, etc. into account, I am kinda groovin' on the J for its old school look. Then R and then G. Only way to tell for sure for you is to strap them on. It would be awesome if you found a place where you could see all 3 (or 4!) at once. Good luck and have fun! |
