date just 16220 needs service.....

I have a 1996 Rolex datejust reference number 16220 in need of service. It was given to me brand new by my uncle for my college graduation. Unfortunately I have worn it sparingly over the years because it was such a nice gift and I had a really nice Tag Heuer 2000 my everyday watch. I'm on the fence whether or not to send it back to Rolex in New York for service or to use a independent Company 2 / the service. currently the watch is not keeping time and I believe it is likely a mainspring is broke I can turn the crown to Infinity and it will not keep time or any movement whatsoever. looking for some insight on best options for service. Would really like to start enjoying wearing my Rolex again. Any insight on repairs would be appreciative. This is my first post and it looking to gain more knowledge about purchasing another Rolex in the near future thanks Pete

I would send it to either one of the recommended watchmakers here on TRF or an official Rolex Service Centre.
