Hi guys. I am, well, new here. Looking for my first Rolex! I live in Florida and I own a Speedmaster Pro, but now I want to delve into Rolex. I think I narrowed it down to a 16570 Explorer II black dial. I am looking to purchase in approximately 1-2 weeks.

I do have some questions regarding my first purchase, but not sure if this is the right place to ask. I've been browsing the forum and have a pretty general list of questions that I either couldn't find answers to, or were very old threads. Some of those questions are:

1) Is Chrono24 still a good location to purchase?
2) Prices vary (for my particular model I am looking for) from $3500-5000+, used. Why such a price disparity, and what can I do learn up on EXACTLY what I want and what I am really getting for the big price hops? What is desirable? Is that necessarily reflected in the cost? I think, In my own mind, I would prefer the skinny red GMT hand 40mm version, black dial, with NO "ROLEXROLEX" engraving on the inside of the bezel, made in the 2000's preferably, and serviced recently. What I would like, is the non stamped clasp, but that doesn't seem to exist in the watch I am looking for. The upper limit of my budget is about $4k, which seems doable.
3) Are their downsides from purchasing from an overseas vendor (on Chrono24 for example)?
4) I am browsing the classifieds here as well. :)
5) Why does the used Rolex market, locally in particular, seem a little bit shady? Even online, many of the " BUY/SELL USED ROLEX HERE" places are 1990's-esque websites with very little information? I am not used to a higher end market with such odd selling/buying arrangements.

Anyway, I am glad to be here. There is a LOT of information for me to learn.

Welcome. Be sure you try on what you think you want to buy. If what you "really want" costs more, take a deep breath, step back, calm the frenzy, and save up a little more for the right purchase. You want to avoid buyers remorse and have that little tingle every time you put the thing on. Then the money part never matters.
