Daytona 116500LN - What's going on here?!

So Misleading!

Could it already be preowned?

Also, it's listed as a 116520. Shouldn't it be 116500LN?

Notice in the description it says ceramic bezel

Maybe by "custom" they mean they're putting an aftermarket bezel on a 116520

Bingo. I'm certain we'll be seeing a lot more of those aftermarket bezels out there, too.

Though personally, I prefer the OG version.

Also please note that are showing a picture of the 116500LN and NOT the 116520 with a custom bezel - run

And looks like they are charging $1100 more for a slither of ceramic that cost around $20 to make.

Where did you get that info that it only costs $20 to make? Please quote your source.

With R&D, production costs, overhead expenses, etc., I can guarantee it costs much, much more than $20 to make.

Exactly! That's what makes it so misleading

Sadly someone will buy this thinking it's something that it's not.

Saw another one like this with a custom "skeletonized" dial yesterday. At least the picture was the right model though.

Aftermarket bezel, they are not trying to hide it. It says custom and not to mention the 116520 reference #

I just feel bad for the poor sap that buys it for 11.5k.

I agree; I don't think they're showing a 116500 an it is clear to me that it has an aftermarket bezel on it from the ad and use of the word "Custom."

100% they are showing a front image of a 116500 and NOT a 116520 with added aftermarket insert - easy spot from dial shown numerous ways to tell.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the production cost for an aftermarket bezel is even lower than $20, depending on country of manufacture. Almost all the costs would be up-front; the per-unit price for a bit of pottery would be pretty minimal. Ceramic such as this is not an inherently-expensive material.

Mind you, though Swiss manufacture and quality control ain't cheap, the same principle applies to the Rolex version. I doubt their per-unit cost is going to be very high once it's spread out through the entire production run. And they've already been making the same part for the 18K RG and platinum versions for a while now; the R&D and equipment have no doubt more than paid for themselves already. :)
