First (and probably only) Rolex

Hello all,
I am a 21 year old law student considering both the 214270 Exp 1 and the 116200 white roman oyster bracelet datejust. This watch will be worn daily (suit on weekdays, swimwear and jeans on weekends), and I will not be purchasing another watch until my hair turns gray so I want to get this right. I have tried many models on and have narrowed it down to these two choices but am torn on which to go with. The Exp is sportier (black face, larger size, brushed links) but does not seem to have the charm and elegance of the DJ. I love the roman numerals on the DJ plus the clean white face. The PCLs seem fragile but I can always have them brushed if need be. Which do you all believe would be the more appropriate purchase? Any and all opinions or pictures would be greatly appreciated!

Both good choices! I'd probably go for the new explorer!

Tough decision. I'd personally be swayed more toward the datejust. I think the datejust style would stand the test of time more so.

I like the datejust more on you. Can be dressed up or down and perfect for any day of the week.

I don't personally like roman numerals on dials but I would choose the Datejust even if only for the date complication. That's a must have for me for a watch to get daily use.

My Datejust has a silver stick dial, though.

Datejust, only because I'm not a fan on Arabic numerals on a watch. Romans will always look good!

It's fine to approach it as your "first and last", but I won't be shocked if you're back here in a couple years asking about your 2nd!

I like the Exp but the Datejust sounds like what you're looking for. Good luck and take your time trying them on as many times as you need.

Your only choice is the Explorer. Here's why:

The Explorer looks both Sporty and Dressy whereas the Datejust only looks Dressy. Datejust has a white dial, fancy Roman numerals, and a cyclops, it's not a Sports watch, can't even consider it for that. Explorer has the black, simplistic dial that is the hallmark of a Sports Rolex but also has the polished bezel and polished dial markers that give it just enough bling for Dress.

Only one of the two watches can be worn all the time to all occasions, will look as smart with a tuxedo as it does comfortable with jeans, and that's the Explorer.

I own the Explorer 214270 so my opinion is obviously biased. It's the go anywhere, do anything watch and, in my opinion, the best one in the Rolex lineup. As far as "charm and elegance" I believe it checks those boxes exceedingly well.
That being said, the DJ is also a wonderful choice and I certainly can't argue against it. Try them both on as much as you feel is necessary and in the end listen to your heart. Either one will serve you well for a lifetime but I feel that the Explorer is the more versatile of the two.

From what I read of your life style and age. I think the black one would be your best fit as it would do everything well/ dress and sport.

CHEERS!

As others have said, I'd wait for the new Explorer. It's more versatile and if you can live without the date, it's probably the best choice.

Funny, I said the same thing about a first and last...

I prefer the datejust, but I personally like the indices vs the Roman numerals.
