My mom's birthday is coming up and we (her kids) would like to get her a two tone lady datejust since she's the only one in the family that doesn't have a Rolex.

Her vision is not good so I'm wondering if there is a dial material/color that is considered to have the best contrast against the hands for easier viewing?

Her wrist is very skinny so a midsize model will not work.

Any thoughts, recommendations, etc., would be appreciated.

I am sure you will get a good answer here on the forum. Have you visited the Rolex web site and your local AD's? Your mom is a lucky woman that you and your siblings are considering buying her a Rolex. Good for you and her. Very nice.

Thanks, nko. Very nice picture. The gold hands do seem to reflect more in person and we're debating between this and one with a darker dial.

Yep, I'd go with the white dial. Maybe with baton markers? Though Romans is prettier in my opinion.

Are you sure the midsize would be too big? We women here are big fans of larger watches on small wrists. I had a Lady Datejust that I just found nearly impossible to read with my aging (almost 45-year-old) eyes - though it did have a busy, monochromatic dial. The larger dial size I got later did wonders for legibility.

Oh, and make sure it's plain, don't get the mother-of-pearl, or jubilee dial, because that's too distracting!

The white with romans is OK, but futed bezel is a little distracting. Maybe a smooth or domed one would make it easier to spot?.

I have been looking at the mid-size perpetual for my wife. She doesn't like a date on her watch and prefers a slightly larger watch.

I recommend this model because there is a dial with a huge 3 and 6 and smaller 9. Also, there is the 'mini-explorer' model with the 3, 6, and 9.

These watches look great and are a fairly priced since no date (around $3500US).

I tried like hell to find some pix of the watch I am referring too - no luck except the rolex.com site (you can't cut/paste from their site). Look at 'perpetual' models and you will see it. Good luck.

BTW... the DJ Sys12345 posted looks great!

I've never owned a white dial Rolex. I have an SS and TT with black dials. I find the hands and dial markings on the SS quite a bit easier to see than the gold on the TT.

My father gave me his Rolex when he tired of it. SS with gray dial. Talk about difficult to see!

Otherwise the white with arabic or romans is nice, as well as the black dial with same markers. Both offer decent contrast.

I do have to stay off this forum as it definitely adds to the temptation to get another Rolex. I have a SS submariner and my next watch (if I come into some serious $) would be the Daytona w/ the meteorite dial in white gold. How can you resist having something that's not of this world...
