Sleep Number bed worth it?

Me and the wife have been toying with the idea of a sleep number bed. I was wondering if any TRFers have one and how they like it.

Thanks.

We have one. Works well for us. I did have one of the pumps blow a leak, but SN replaced it free of charge.

I have often thought about one of those types of beds.
One thing I have always wondered is can you feel the partition down the centre of the bed which allows each side to move independent to one another? Unless it was done in such a way as to be almost unnoticeable my wife would not go for it.

Can anyone compare this to a temperpedic mattress. I have temperpedic now but it seems to sag down after 3 years.

Sleep Number bed worth it?

I have used one in a few high class hotels I have used.......

I ******* hated them. Maybe because I was not use to them.... But I spent the entire night trying to figure out what number I should be. I would prefer sleeping on the floor much more than a sleep number bed.

Right now I sleep on a Serta Memory Foam bed, and would rather pull my own teeth than try a sleep number again.

Do NOT go to the sleep number mattress. I am usually an optimistic person. I swear I would rather pull my own teeth with a rusty set of fish hooks than ever try a sleep number bed again.

Well since I don't have a sleep # I have never had to rely upon sleep # to repair a blown leak. Sorry, I for some reason, am anti sleep #

I've slept on quite a few of them at different hotels. I feel the same way Tye does.

Absolutely think they are garbage.

Some people though that I've talked to love them though.

Being a lightweight, I can sleep on anything as long as it doesn't sag towards the middle.
As a sufferer from mild Gastro-Reflux I have been thinking about a divided double bed that can elevate the separate sides independently. Anyone who suffers from Reflux knows that a slight elevation can make a lot of difference.

This may seem extreme, but I'd
Rather pay 2800$ for a bail of hay. Just saying lol.

I bought a queen size dual chamber SN bed about 4 years ago. I use it everyday and love it. Since then my girlfriend has purchased one and she is happy with it as well.
This past year I bought a vacation home and went to SN for a king mattress that, at least so far, I am very satisfied with. Never had a single problem with any of them.
I keep mine fairly firm, I think my # is 70.

Ours doesn't have the elevation feature, just the queen dual air chambers. I keep my side on 70, my wife has hers on 40.

Like I mentioned earlier, my side tended to lose air, but the replacement pump fixed that. Now we never have to adjust the settings.

We've had it about three years and like it fine. Our previous mattress was not cheap by any means, but it gave my wife back problems. Those have gone away with the SN. I don't get the vehement dislikes of some, but to each their own.

Interesting thread. I can't speak to the SN bed, but for me a firm matures with a feather/down top is best. I also find that quality sheets make a huge difference.

Well, Jesus was born in a manger in a stable, but I wouldn't recommend that either.

My brother in law spent 4K on one.

It is nice if you like an air mattress. I have an air mattress that cost $400, seems about the same.

The concept is an expensive route but some people swear by them while others like Tye swear AT them

There's more to go wrong than with a simple conventional mattress - think tourbillon for timekeeping

But if you have a medical condition, the elevating feature is great and may improve your comfort. I've been fortunate with pure latex so never own done.

A bail of hay is a luxury where I come from Tye.

So are you recommending these sleep numbers beds?

...
.
The upside is they don't start sagging like most mattresses. Every once in a while you can inflate to 100 and then bring it down to your setting and it feels like new.

I have a bad lower back and suffer from arthritic pain and LOVE my sleep number bed.
Owned it for almost 10 years now and would never use anything else. Sleeping on conventional inner spring mattresses in hotels and such kills my back. It was the best $2500 my wife and I ever spent.

I would throw out my back 3 to 4 times a year from doing almost nothing. We purchased a SN bed a little more than two years ago and I have not had a back problem since. Money very well spent as far as I am concerned. We bought the version where we can raise and lower the head and feet ends of the bed.

The bed works as advertised. You should look into the higher level versions that have several layers of padding, it helps a lot with comfort since an air mattress can be very firm.

We had a Sleep Number bed for several years. Before that it was a waterbed. (Remember them? ) The foam layers that are above the air bladders broke down after about 5 years, and we ended up getting a Tempurpedic.

Spent a lot of time just laying on temperpedics in the store before selecting one. After we got it, it took about week to adjust to the different feel of it. We've had ours for ~ 8 years now. No sagging noted, but the foam does slightly soften up over time on the areas where you lay the most. We wouldn't go back to innerspring or air at this point. YMMV.

I recommend that you spend significant time laying on potential beds in the showroom before you select one.

Try 100% natural latex mattress, my wife and I got one then quickly converted all kids to them. A lot of benefits, check them out.
