Hi,

Im a recent owner of a new TT Submariner (for just over a month). I just noticed after swimming at the beach that the Cyclops / magnification finish looks worn/scratched. Ive been searching but cant find much besides scratched crystal. It is really bothering me. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sorry but I can't really see the scratch from that picture. Have you tried scrubbing it of? I've had dirt before on my sapphire that looked like a scratch and was a pain to wipe off but it eventually came off

It's not really a scratch. More of a loss of the finish at the cyclops.

Strange. Almost looks like the AR coating on the cyclops was damaged. On an unrelated note, lol @ the sticker still being on the PCL.

The area did indeed rub off. It can be fixed. Send it to rsc.

Yeah I agree.
@ The PCL sticker, I know lol, Ive been babying the watch since I got it. The loss of coating is really bothering me very much. Thanks for the help.

Agreed OP! This would bother me too because it seems visible at every angle. Did you rub the face of your watch on something?

Thats the adhesive under the cyclops....it appears to have failed and water has accessed the gap between the cyclops and crystal. Needs to be replaced/repaired.

Doubtful. Previous posters are right. The pictures arent great but its not at the cyclops/crystal interface, just on the cyclops. Thanks for the help regardless.

The AR coating is underneath the cyclops
So wear on the surface wouldn't be of the AR coating
Agree w/ the comment that perhaps the issue is with something underneath the cyclops, such as with the adhesive

I'll follow up when I get it fixed. (Ive read that AR coatings on both layers.)

I got a scratch on the cyclops of a SubC I had a while back on the very first day of owning it! The RSC in San Francisco was able to fix it in about 2 minutes. I wish I knew what they did, but they took it in the back to work on it. But, it can be fixed!

I was just wondering if anyone figured out what this was as I have almost the exact same issue.
GMT Master II
1.5 years old.
babied for the first year, but over the last few months have taken it to the beach a few times, pool a few times and hot tub a few times.

Last week I noticed something odd on the cyclops, and after trying to clean it found out it wont come off. As far as i can tell there is no "scratch" it looks like a skuff (like sandpaper rubbed on it) but the cyclops feels smooth to the touch, so I am not sure that it is on the surface.

After reading this thread, I think my issue is the same, or at the lease very similar. I have a triangle shaped mark on my cyclops. I have attached two pictures trying to show it, but it is very hard to get a good picture of it.

I am still not convinced that I scratched the watch on anything. I have never set it down crystal side down, never hit it on anything that i can remember, and certainly dont remember the face dragging on something that would cause damage. (Of course, it is entirely possible that i did). After reading above some suggested it could be a layer between the outer cyclops and inner?

I dont remember ever hitting the watch, setting it down on something the wrong way, or doing anything that may cause my issue.

When looking at my cyclops, there is what appears to be a triangle shaped Skuff on it (almost like sandpaper rubbed it). The thing that is weird is that it is perfectly smooth to the touch. IE i cant feel anything abnormal with my finger, or nail, and it does not rub off.

Anyways, the OP's problem looks almost the same, and some mentioned an issue inside the cyclops?

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts? I really dont want to send the watch in for service at 1.5 years old.

The AR coating is not on the surface of the Cyclops because it would scratch too easily. It is underneath the crystal. The Cyclops can be replaced pretty easily if needed. It is just glued on.

The smudge on the Cyclops may be residue from something you hit it against like paint from a door jamb. Did you try some lite polish to remove it?

I wouldn't worry about it. After a few years of wearing that watch every day you'll start to notice that "scratches" turn into "battle scars"

Scratches from use etc dont bother me, I can handle that. This one is just bugging me because as far as I can tell, it isnt a scratch.

I have not tried to polish it with anything other than a cleaning cloth (worried about making it worse).

If I was sitting here, and feel the scratch, at least I would know that I actually hit something. I dont really need it fixed, but dont want to send it in to find out if it is warranty or not.

I can tell that the mark is at, or very close to the surface of hte cyclops. If i shine a bright light at the right angle and look from the side i can see it at the very top of the lens.
