5512/5513 Crystal Question

Hi Folks, I am in the process of buying a 1967 5512 metres first Submariner and not being a vintage expert at all, the process has brought several crystal questions to mind. I note there are a few topics on the forum about types of domes and authenticity of each and so on, however I have perhaps a 'dumb' question that I was looking for any colour on, if anyone can help.

Were all 5512 and 5513's delivered new with T19 superdome crystals? if not, what were the watches delivered new with in those specific years. What was the even taller 39 used for (SD?). What was the less aggressively profiled T19 dome used for, and /or was the dome just another form of service dome?

The watch I have bought is a one owner 1967 5512 that currently has a service crystal, albeit we are installing a T19 superdome in the negotiation. As part of this journey, this has raised the questions mentioned above. I presume I am doing the right thing switching out the service crystal to the superdome, but this has raised a more broader question about what these watches were delivered new with.

many thanks, in advance.

all 5512 were delivered with tropic 19. there is no such thing as officially differentiated super dome, dome and service,....the T19 just came in progressively less domed as time marched on....but they are all called T19.

yours would have been a T19 , in what we call a super dome profile originally. A T19 service profile isn't wrong , its just a later incarnation ....and what you lose in profile you generally get a trade off for more waterproofness......if thats a word :)

yes a T39 is the same thing , but for Seadweller and has higher sidewalls.

Similarly in my experience what Rolex supply today as a tropic 16 is rather different in profile to a 1950's tropic 16 but it's still officially designated a tropic 16.
