Some advice please on a used datejust
Can anyne advise a course of action?
My wife bought a used Dj (1986 model) from a big uk used seller tail end of 2014. She had to send it back within it's warranty period to fix an issue that is happening again. I took the dj to an AD yesterday and they advised it has never been service by an RSC and that the dial is most certainly not an OEM one as some of the lettering has flaked off. To get it serviced I need a new dial to get it done by an RSC total cost £800. If she replaced the original dial it would be £3k as it's mother of pearl with diamonds on the hour markers. She is very upset and feels she has been tricked by what should've been a safe purchase from a respected seller here in the UK. I realise the watch is now out of warranty from the seller However I intend to call them today to discuss the issue. Does this sound fair? There were no OEM box or papers with the watch when she bought it. She has four other Rolex models and this one was worn sparingly I realise this won't cut any ice with the dealer but surely they should be able to offer something. The watch cost £3k in 2014. Any advice appreciated. Thanks |

Your unlikely to get much help from the dealer you purchased it from.
I would get it serviced from RSC and choose a different dial. One that is not $3000. |

Thanks for the replies.
I've just spoken with the original seller after looking on their website there appears to be a 2 year warranty with the watch. However as they didn't fix it properly the last time I not sure I trust them. Also when I told the person I spoke to about the two year warranty she said she'd need to check!!.... Hmmm |

That's great.
Now tell them to service it properly and replace the aftermarket dial. |

Bummer
There are so many watches out there for sale with box and papers I would recommend to anyone to purchase a watch with those in place.

Ah, if they stated it was aftermarket dial then guess you have to abide by their warranty terms, if they hadn't I would be kicking up a royal fuss. I would buy a new genuine dial from Rolex.

Here is another option. Use an independent certified watchmaker to service the watch. S/he will not care about the aftermarket dial.
That way you get a proper service for much less that RSC. You avoid need to replace a dial you wife loves. And you only are out of pocket for the seller's "warranty" - which I am sure you'll agree is not worth the risk of them causing more harm than good. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
