Was he trying to speculate on the vintage craze? It's funny that such successful businessman lacked common sense and didn't research the market before spending so much on vintage watches.
If it's just a matter of being "overpriced" I think that in a mostly free market sellers can ask whatever price they want, it's up to the buyer to decide whether the price is right or not. It seems he paid the asking price without any concern until he tried to resell the watches...

That's an area where "homage" artwork takes it to a huge profit margin for the maker.

Being sold fakes is one thing. Franken watches or just mad because the market will not support his purchase prices is another.

Don't know that I agree but that is ok.

If it is all genuine Rolex parts what is fake about that?? When I say Franken I mean the dial is not the original dial or the bezel insert has been replaced or there are other genuine Rolex parts that were not originally on that particular watch. Hence making it less valuable to collectors.

When I hear fake I think non genuine case or dial or crystal. Not genuine parts that were pieced together.

Well depends on how it's advertised. Of course when it's re-sold again it's back to being "all original."

So true. That is why the red subs and some of the other ultra high dollar stuff scares me to death on the buy side.

why open a thread with such a vague opening post so lacking in details, leaving it to others to post stories that were in the public domain at the same point?

I did not wish to be considered as giving an opinion on any specific matter or its protagonists in this instance.

During the course of the thread, my attention was drawn to an unconnected watch being marketed as a Comex. I followed that prompt and added my comments on the relevant thread concerning that watch for anyone to read or dismiss as they choose.

I am sorry if this has irritated in some way. Am I overlooking something that I should have done / not done here?
