New member asking for help with 6056 please
Hello all....
After 20 years of ownership I've decided to find out a little more about my watch ! I'm told it's a 1948 5056 / 6056 ? My main question is about the crown, should it not have the logo on it ? And what specific true of crown fits ?, there are many in eBay but I need to know the specific one I require ?? And who would you recommend to fit this and service the watch in Nottinghamshire are ? The dial says chronometer, yet the internals don't ?, is this typical of the period ? Lastly, does the front pull off ?, and should I clean the dial ??? Thanks in advance to anyone who can advise Stuart |

Hi Stuart. Let's start from the beginning. That photo isn't very helpful.
That looks like the serial number. Can you read it and post it please? Then what is the number on the case on the opposite side? 5056 or 6056? Then please post photos of the dial side and the caseback side and the crown side. If it is indeed a 6056 then it came with a "super oyster" crown originally. Since that is basically similar to a generic waterproof crown it may have been replaced. If it is a 5056 it will use a screw down crown but since that is also relatively unavailable except in vintage circles, the tube may have been removed and a generic crown installed. This is a hand wind watch utilizing a 10.5 h movement. It could be a chronometer or not. Is the dial original or repainted? The movement wouldn't necessarily have the word chronometer on it but it would say adjusted to 6 positions...indicating chronometer grade. Just need more photos and more info can be given. Movement photo is also helpful as is the inside of the case back. |

Will take better photos but it looks as though the original number has been crossed out and 6056 added ?

Nope....I would say the watch is fine.
1950 would be the year I would say. Model is as 6056. You need a super oyster crown. It is NOT a chronometer. The dial has been refinished. Those are legit hands. PM sent. |
