The 116500 seems to be easier to get than I thought

I ordered white and black
Got the white and black probably next month

At other dealers I ordered 3 more . 2 white and 1 black

Just got a call that I can pick up another white (which I did not expect so soon)

Before some of you would ask me why I order several watches.... I AM NOT A FLIPPER !!!!!
I ordered these because I have quite a few friends who also collect watches and I offer these to friends .... Of course AT LISTPRICE

Anyway .... I was sure I would get mine fast because I know that dealer very well but I did not expect those from other dealers arriving so fast

So those on waiting lists
DO NOT pay a premium to get one faster....I do believe premiums will drop fast as they are coming to the market pretty quick in pretty large numbers

I don't completely buy this. Its the most in demand watch right now, I certainly wouldn't say its easy to get from an AD.

I was put on my AD's list last year before the new daytona was even announced... still have a year to wait, spoke to him today and he told me they aren't taking anymore people onto the list as the demand is just too high.

Lucky you... you know the old saying, pics or it didn't happen.
The little skeptic in my mind would love to see the five 116500's as you get them. I suppose a quick pic of each with their associated warranty cards wouldn't be to hard to post? Feel free to blur out the first few digits on the card if that's a worry.

So they should be on the market quick its not like its a new watch, its just the old one with a ceramic bezel and slightly different dials. Both these cosmetic items Rolex can make hundreds at a time, and anyone paying these crazy prices asked by some, must be a sandwich short of a picnic.

I have noticed more and more pop up for sale. Those at large premiums seem to not be selling. That would indicate that the OP may be accurate.

Unless you spend a ton of money at these ADs, color me skeptical.

GBP? Euro? Francs? If you're in the Eurozone are you in a country that is less frequently traveled but still using the Euro?

Thanks for any insight

I still just love reading the John Mayer quote from that excruciating piece Hodinkee ran.

"JM:I think it's $30K. You kinda can't put a price on owning this watch – it's such a visceral thing. I think people will pay $30,000 for the bragging rights! And social media plays a big part in the story of this watch. Hell you and I were talking about how we'd get this watch up – we're as guilty as anybody."

Some people will be lucky and get offered 2 or 3, some will wait years, luck of the draw.

My problem is I do not have a favorite AD. I have been collecting for decades. I don't go to the same AD as they change sales folks, inventory fluncuates, purchasing different brands etc etc.

I will be one of those that won't get one for years.

Nope, not going to make all the pics :-)
I'm not collecting them ... the second white one will go the same day to a good friend

One of the AD only sold me 2 rolexes in 8 years or so. One 116520 and I believe the other one was a deepsea

Yes but my understanding from here (and PuristS) is that you and your friends have considerably better relationships with AD's and companies than the vast majority of people on this forum... :P

I also don't think it's worth paying more than list but most people won't have the access you have :)

+1 - don't get me wrong I think the new Daytona is beautiful. But I don't buy in to the craze.

:-)

You have a point.... At some dealers I do get what I want pretty fast
But the other example I gave is also the truth. I'm picking up a white 116500 next week at a dealer that only sold me 2 watches in 8 years
I think I can say that I am not a well known client in his shop

And this was mainly why I made that post

I expected to get the pieces from "my" AD very quick but I was surprised when another AD ( not a good client there) called me to tell me my Daytona arrived

There is also a third AD, again not a shop where they know me very well, who told me I could expect the watch within 6 to 9 months

So in fact all I wanted to say is..... Be patient, no need to pay a premium

Agreed. I put my name down for black and white at Wempe in NYC but as I'm a new client there (having only moved here last year) I fully accept I'll have to wait 1 - 2 years, but that's okay :)

Could be faster
Know that a bunch of annoying flippers are on every list too
When premiums fade away these flippers are no longer interested and these lists shrink pretty fast

A friend here in London got three of them without any real issues, but he is on the fringes of the industry and knows who to ask. I know he believes production is high, and that these watches will not hold value compared to earlier Daytonas.
I am fortunate, because I don't like the look of the Daytona, never have. But I would never pay above retail for any watch.....it is just a watch.
