Which Patek Chrono to pair with ALS 1815 Chrono

Hey mates,
I really enjoy my 1815 Chrono. Looking to add a Patek chrono to the mix as I moved a few watches out. Been debating between the 5170G black dial and the 5960P grey dial - which could be had for a very nice price these days (50K USD). Two different watches in aesthetics and movement architecture. But I just ran into a beautiful & untouched 5070G which I've been smitten by, so much better in the metal than in pics, I simply forgot how beautiful it is. So basically which Patek chrono would compliment my 1815 Chromo boutique edition (with the blue markings).

5170G Black - different color and aesthetic to the Lange, dressier.
5960P Grey - Totally different design and the addition of an annual calendar. More sporty and I've always had soft spot for the 5960
5070G - white dial. Absolute classic. Only appreciating in value. But similar vintage style aesthetic to the Lange.IMG_1926.jpg

Some pics, cheers, and thanks for your input in advance. Jay

I tried on my friend Thomas's 5070G a month ago and still can't stop thinking about it. Would be an easy choice for Me. The 1815 is a beauty and my only reservation would be having two white dial chronos. Have you considered the 5070 J or R? Also, IMO a Chrono should have a scale. In reality most people probably don't even use the Chrono function or the scale but it looks damn cool and completes the look for Me. Just my 2 cents. Happy Hunting!

I would go for the PP 5960 Stainless steel, a completely different watch. So you have one dressy Chrono, the ALS, and one sporty chrono, with an add-onn AC.

Get the 5070g, sounds like it's fate finding one like that! I would of course then sell the Lange and get the 5170g as well.

I am biased (so take my comments for what they are worth), but I would give the nod to the 5960p. In light of the relatively soft market for this model right now I think it is a great buy. I've had mine for a few years now and wear it probably more than I do any other piece in my collection. As you mentioned, it is that perfect combo of refined, elegant, yet sporty at the same time. It really is one of those pieces that you can wear under just about every circumstance.

I'm with you a chrono needing a scale. Though the 3970 pulls it off without. Regarding two white chronos - I like the platinum more than the other golds but it's in a different league price-wise.

That is an idea. I actually like the steel 5960. Much more than in pics. But prices are getting hammered on it. And that bracelet feels tinny to me.

I'm thinking this. I love to 5070 and 5170, but having recently picked up a 5960p I'm smitten with it for the moment. The movement view will not compare, but you don't often see that side anyway. If it was a 5070r, j, or p my answer might be different, as the 5070g and your 1815 chrono are a tad similar (I have an older 1815 chrono, and it's the reason why I haven't gone for the 5070g, though it's a superb watch)

I love it! And yes I find it really versatile. I even like it on a nato
The prices now make it very tempting. Only a bit more than a 5960 steel.

Yes, they are similar. Both with arabics and pulsometers, though the cases are quite different. The platinum is tempting but for a but more your in 5970 league.

I think the 5170g and 1815 chrono make an excellent pair. The 1815 has that old school charm and the black 5170 has a modern feel to it. The 5960p is really nice but manual wound chrono trumps it. My only issue is the legibility with the black 5170g. Good luck and keep us updated.

Yes, that was my original inclination. Thanks.

I voted for the 5960. I own the steel version. I like your ALS chrono and it has been on my previous purchase lists (went with the ALS timezone 1). i think the 5070 and 5170 are a bit too similar to the ALS you own. For diversity I would go for the 5960 or even consider the newer release 5905. If i were to choose between the 5070 and 5170-- i would go with the former. That watch really sings to me -- but again i think for diversity in your case I vote for the 5960...

5070 is an amazing machine but you already have an ALS chrono. Have you considered any other models?

5170g with the lovely Breguets is top notch, your ALS looks fantastic and in white looks better to me than the white 5070. Never been a big fan of the 5960 style.

I had the 5960P twice
I love the watch; because delivers so much.
But it really doesn't fill the void of a real chrono fully;
I think works more like an annual calendar. Other good
thing about the 5960P is that i love the weight.

For me the ideal combo is an annual calendar and a Chrono.
One Manual Patek and one Automatic Patek, perfect
I been back and forwards regarding the ideal choice for a Patek
Chrono and the only thing that I know for sure is that I need the
Doctor scale (like Mike just said); so the 5170 or 5070 of your choice with
Doctor scale. Plus the AC, I love 5146G because is my perfect daily, but
other choice would be the 5396G white dial (No arabic numbers); its so
clean.

What are the prices right now? The 5960 on steel is ~$35k from what I've seen

In this case, no. Looking for a Patek chrono. Other models on the agenda but not connected to these.

Around 40 actually, or a bit more. 5960p grey could be had for around 10k more. Blue a bit higher. And black dial closer to 70k.

That's funny as I own the 5396 WG. Love it. Don't love the new breuget models. PP is getting lazy and plopping breuget numerals on watches that don't call for it aesthetically. I'm planning to move my 5396 this year for one of my grails - the 3448. In fact I purchased the 5396 because it so closely resembles the clean, classic, and timeless design of the 3448. Prices have skyrocketed the last few years and the few examples I've run across we're over-polished. But it's on my radar. Love the 5396 for what it is, though.

Why'd you sell the 5960?

So that's where my vote lies

I think this shows the beauty of PP is that they cover most people's diverse tastes under 1 brand. I love the breguet numerals and only became a fan of the 5396 when I saw this years launch. Same watch with a subtle difference and two bases covered!

If you can spring for a 3448 you can get the 5070P and sell the ALS. It is always easier to spend other forum members money LOL!

First time was pure strategy , dissolution issues. Second time I really sold it because I felt that it wasn't fulfilling the Chrono spot and end it up being just a very Expensive Annual Calendar. But who knows I might buy it for the third time , lol .....it would be crazy but on watches nothing is written. Right now I am aiming more to Chrono but will see

Good luck bro !
