114060 is Costa Rica ready!

I'm traveling to humid climates and also wanted to tone down the look of my beater. Anyone else agree or disagree that putting your Sub on a strap draws less attention? Either way I love this look!

I much prefer stainless steel to leather and fabric, which get very damp and smelly, in hot & humid climates. Apart from watches I wear only at home indoors, all my leather straps get put away in April and don't come out again till around October.

I like that look. But from somebody who has been traveling to Latin America for a very very long time I must highly suggest to leave the Rolex at home. I was a traveling salesman and what I did was just buy a quality citizen for like 300 bucks when I traveled to LA.

Its just asking for trouble, IMHO.

Weird first post, I know.

Keep it at home. Safe and sound...

And advise from someone who lives in the tropical climate, natos get warm easily. Steel bracelet stays cool...

Enjoy your trip sir!

I'd agree with leaving it at home. The fact that the OP is putting it on a material strap to 'draw less attention' says it all. Draw no attention by wearing a cheaper watch and enjoy the trip worry free would be my advice.

It's definitely toned down but I think I'd miss the glidelock clasp in humid climates.

I would leave it on the metal. Make sure your insurance is up to date. Wear your watch and enjoy it.

When I went to Costa Rica a couple years ago, I wore my GMT on a NATO similar to what you're doing. Turns out that unless you're going to be hanging out in San Jose, all of the touristy areas are quite safe.

thats what I do. I always travel with a rolex. Life is to short to only use ones pieces for deskdiving. I think people are exaggerating the risks of traveling with a watch. I have been all around Europe and northern Africa with and no issues whats so ever. Only drawbacks is that you tend to put the pieces to more risk of scratching them, but those scratches are fond memories.

I got mugged in San Jose.

I was only carrying a room key and a small amount of cash. My wallet, Rolex and phone were back in the hotel safe. I'd stepped out of my hotel to grab some local food at about 8 PM.

Quite a brazen attack -- I was with a large friend who had been a heavyweight rower at Yale. He had graduated one month prior and still struck an imposing figure. In any case, there were two muggers and they both had knives..

this is not meant to spoil your vacation. Only a warning to be more situationally aware than I was. Strap or bracelet probably won't affect anything -- I got robbed while wearing shorts, flip flops and no watch. stay safe and enjoy your vacation !

I don't think a stap will be any more comfortable, nor make your Rolex any less noticeable.

That looks great. Having said that I would never take any of my nice watches to Costa Rica. That is a trip for a beater for me.

Enjoy the trip.

I've traveled through Costa Rica and never had a problem. And I've hung out in some pretty pretty sketchy places. I wouldn't want to vacation without my Rolex. Have fun! Stay chill like a Tico

I'll be staying at this Eco resort called the Pacuare Lodge and then the Four Seasons in Papagayo Golf so I think the only time I'll be in San Jose metro is to and from the airport. I have traveled throughout Asia with a Tudor and Mexico with a datejust so I'm not too worried about this trip with my Sub ;) (almost sound like potentially famous last words tho hahaha)

Don't leave it at home. Costa Rica is as safe as your backyard. I've been there many times on surf trips. I can't speak to the back alleys of San Jose late at night but then again there's not much surf in those places. Have fun.

My suggestion is to wear a cheaper watch while you're traveling. Having a Rolex in a country like Costa Rica is just asking for unwanted attention.
