Submariner pronunciation

Based on this -
http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...t=48935&page=2
I think it's time for a poll:

Don't even get me started on this one.

I have always respected Rolex to be a fine watch piece, enjoyed by affluent and educated individuals.
The fact that this discussion is even on the table is appauling.

I am shocked that even Rolex owners are having trouble pronouncing this properly. Obviously, affluence has no relationship to being literate and educated.

Sell that Rolex and pay for your tuition at a respectable school.
No point in owning a Rolex if you can't pronounce it properly !

to be honest you missed out the actual pronounciation

SUB-MA-RIN- E(U)R

the first option would sound like MARE as in HAIR

Right or Cool?

According to Webster's, it's MARINE as in USMC, but to me, MARIN (as in county) sounds way cooler.

what the??? is IV serious? So does that make me a moron not "affluent" enough to own three rolex watches?? Not everyone that is fascinated by these timepieces is into "yachting" and "fancy sweaters"...Im a custom tattoo artist.....and I LOVE collecting mini-clocks! ....I chose to use my god-given talent as an artist to make a living, and as you can see, have been very successful in doing so! oh and by the way, IV...I scored a 1400 on my SAT's and gratuated High School with a 4.0 GPA...and enough college credits to push me in at the University of Chicago....hmmm. fact is, who gives a Sh!t how one person or another pronounces the "name" of their watch....it is THEIR watch! My father still refers to his expy II as his "overpriced steel mini-clock!" does that warrant him selling off all three of his companies and going to harvard??? I guess you guys should call me an "epidermal decorator"......I'll even go down to to "dotties trophies and plaques" and have a BIG shiny embossed piece of parchment made, frame it, and hang it up at the shop....and then strap on my Looon-et-tay verrrrr-daaaayyy sub-muh-reeeeen-errrr!!!!!! HAHAHAH!

Val- I see your point, but I see his point as well. To me, pronouncing it wrong is just a minor annoyance, but if you're going to do something or say something, why not do or say it correctly? It's much like when people are writing and they are careless with your/you're, there/they're/their, etc. It bugs ME, but other people just don't care. My point is, is that if it takes such LITTLE effort to be correct, then why not be correct?

If you have something to say then why not just say it.
This pent up frustration is no good for you.

I would hope that he is joking in this regard.

If not, he is showing that affluence and education does not equate to common sense nor courtesy. There are people from all walks of life on this forum.

I work with a lot of "old money" families. They have problems like everyone else does. Many of them do not flaunt their wealth and you could not tell that they had a dime to their name. My board president has his family name on a high rise building in Detroit and at the University of Michigan School of Medicine. His son is an Indy Race Car Driver/Owner and he drives used cars and always has dirt on his clothes from playing at their hobby farm.

I think he is joking.

Case in point.......
Your inference is flawed by your mis-use of the term affluent.
Nothing personal here Valentine. I suggest that you learn the full definition and context of these words before you attempt to use them on a public forum. The manner in which we communicate to each other is a very good indicator of who we are as individuals with character.

Thank you for reading my post.

Ivy,
"appauling was not found in the Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary"

The fact that this discussion is even on the table is appauling
