Black or White (plenty of time to decide....)

Thought I'd do a quick Watch Intro and then pose a question. I got the Datejust two tone pictured in my avatar new about a year after my first "real" job (mid '80s). Tapestry dial (swapped for original silver) a couple of years later, and I've been super happy with it ever since. I feel like it's a classic and like most Rolexes, looks great years and years later and ages very well. I wear it virtually all the time and other than nicking the pre-sapphire crystal (which has been replaced at each service), it looks pretty much new to me despite wearing it working out, playing tennis, and doing everything else.

A few weeks ago, someone emailed me a link to the NYT article on the new Daytonas, and somehow, it really struck a chord with me. My wife and I went into the Rolex shop in town (we've lived here 20 years and I'd never been in), and talked to a really nice, low key salesperson. Looked at a bunch of watches, and decided the white dial stainless Daytona was the one for me. Of course they didn't have any in stock but two days later they had both a black and a white to be delivered and asked if I wanted to see them in person. I saw the white and put down a deposit. They had suggested that, based on their waitlist and the frequency of them getting Daytonas, that a black dial would likely be delivered this year, and a white dial next spring.

So here's the question (finally!!!!!): I expect to wear the Daytona for more of a "dress up" watch and keep the DJ for everyday wear. I am sure I will baby the Daytona, although I am a long way from babying the DJ. I thought the white dial looks especially good, with the contrasting black subdial rings, and also because it looks more different than my black Tapestry dial TT. But perhaps the black dial Daytona looks more elegant. I don't think there are any wrong answers here, but am curious as to what you all think. I am not a patient person, but am even more reluctant to settle, so I will not be swayed by early delivery.

I'd pick the white dial. But I'd get both if I could get my hands on them at the right price.

White dial is dressier. If you really want a dressy SS Daytona, may I suggest the 165200!

Having both but with the caveat that the white dial has had considerably less wrist time, I say black dial. The thing is spectacular. It's both elegant and sporty. I don't get into all the 'what dresses up and what dresses down' stuff. I wear what I wear when I want to wear it.

With that in mind, I'll say that the black dial is super utilitarian.

I can not figure out what a 165200 is. Can you elaborate? I clearly am not a WIS yet, despite spending so much time on here the last couple of weeks.

I like the contrast of the white to the black...but the black is spectacular. So...coin toss for me at this point.

Ah, gotcha. No problem.

I did try on a 116520, but found the black/white contrast of the 116500 suited my eye better.

As you know, I only have one other watch, but it has a black dial. That is the main reason I am leaning towards the white dial -- just for a more different look.

Always white if it is an option. It looks great and most Rolex are black dial so it's a nice change.

It's funny that I am thinking the white dial would be more different from my current watch, but on this crazy forum, people will own both, or have a vintage Daytona, a Platona and a new one. Or have four watches with, IMO, very, very similar looks.

Y'all are dangerous!

Wow, those are nice, but I'd feel like they were too similar, unless I had a whole collection of watches (which I don't).
