Dual Montegrappa incoming!

A couple new Montegrappas for you guys. A Fortuna Napoli and a Fortuna Marrakech. The Napoli I picked up earlier in the week. It was way to good of a deal to pass up. Both have the same medium steel nib. They're nice writers. A little better than the Espressione with the #5 steel nib. The Marrakech was a good deal too compared to the going rate but more than twice as much than the Napoli. I have to say I was expecting more "pop" from the mosaic resin but it's a nice looking pen in person so not bad. The Napoli out in the sun looks like sparkling waves of silver as you rotate the pen. Really cool to look at! Reminds me of cirrus clouds.

Metal logos on caps. The Marrakech has a very detailed 1912 logo that has a frosted background. I think it's photo etched or something. The edges are very sharp and fine for such a small part. The Napoli has an enamel blue finish in the recessed sections.

This pen came with the newer Montegrappa box as well. It's a really cool box! Same vinyl textured material on the outside as the old magnetic closure box but a little bigger and rectangular. There's room for small storage under the pen tray as well like traditional boxes. It also has a nice metal plaque with the Montegrappa logo stamped. The old box was cool too but it always reminded me of a woman's clutch purse and wasn't completely reliable to stay closed under transport.

The steel nibs are ok. Not much line variation but they are smooth for the most part. You can press a little out of them. I have a medium Visconti smartouch steel nib that I'm going to try out for the first time tonight. I've read they are a little more springy than usual for steel. I'll post some comparisons between the nibs soon.

Very nice! Love that blue cracked ice.

And some of the better writers that I have are SS nibs. That just isn't right, but true nevertheless!

Thanks guys. I have had some good luck with steel nibs. Never met one I didn't like I do really like the spring of a gold nib and there's things that my 14kt Visconti does that none of my steel nibs do, but I've found steel nibs to be very nice everyday writers. I just picked up a $3 platinum preppy with my order for the Visconti. I want to see how far I can take that nib. Can't see a reason it wouldn't be dead smooth!
