Rolex vs JLC: Timing Test

Using my two-watch winder and daily rotation of watches for equal wrist time since the 1st September I have conducted a timing test of three of my watches. Results after two weeks...

- 2008 Reverso: Lost 9 seconds
- 2014 Sea Dweller 116600: Gained 5 seconds
- 2016 Daytona 116500: Remained exact

Good results for all three, but particularly impressive is that the Daytona has neither lost nor gained a single second.

I have not set my BLNR in 62 days. I just checked and its at +32 seconds gained. Which is .51 seconds gained a day. Pretty sick accuracy imo.

Any movement no matter the brand is only as good as what its been regulated to, with careful regulation even some Chinese made movements can run well inside the Swiss COSC spec. One for sure is the Chinese Seagull ST19 manual wind chronograph, with very carefull regulation a consistent +2 seconds a day cost of watch just $60.

Yes but will the movements keep that time over long term use. Not all do. And there is a possibility that even a well regulated watch has some irregularities in period if the escapement is not a microstella circular breguet overcoil style but a traditional lever style with elliptical period. I do agree though that some of the older movements are fantastic but there is a lot to like about rolex movement design if you want your watch to keep good time thru Activities with impact.

I would argue a rolex is more likely to keep good time through actual rigourous activity than an eta or any watch with lever style regulation which i have found a round of golf will often throw off. Its good that the lever style is easy to regulate i have found because it needs correction more often. Even once a year isn't ideal.

There was an article about how ugly a rolex movement was. I thought the guy is not a pragmatist. The rolex has more bridges because it is tougher. It has microstella regulation because it is resistant to impact and keeps great time with a near perfect circular escapement with the breguet overcoil, quickset rolex doesn't have safe times to advance the date. The only thing i dont like about rolex movement is the rotor should have ball bearings which I believe has been fixed.

the timing above is fantastic. I noticed my 16710 is only 20 seconds behind the atomic source i set it to after 3 months.

Great times!

My Sub gains about a second every two weeks. I can't argue with that kind of accuracy
