How much is too much chocolate?

Every time I go collect this from the safe and pull it out...I marvel at this dial.

There were 3 of these reportedly that came from a bought out service center stash in the middle east many years ago. The elements, the darkness, the tritium, the glassine envelopes...who knows...but what a great accident.

There were some wonderful things that came out of the woodwork during the crunch in the late 2000's.

The perfect watch met the perfect dial.

Actually I have posted it before...

The watch is one owner. Box, original guarantee card, 1966 service papers and letter of military provenance.

Bought new in 1959 it was already 5 years old. It was the last Rolex in the ship store showcase in Inchon S. Korea.

The unique part is...the movement is a 24 jewel top of the line 24 karat gold factory plated 645.

Guarantee Card.

On a strap with letter.

66 RNY service papers.

Clasp

Wow, what an amazing piece of history. Did you acquire it from the original owner?

Truly exceptional!

Last summer I had a very similar 6202 with a service dial that had aged to a chocolate brown. I'll see if I can dig up a picture.

That son of a gun really took care of it. He went to a few war zones and the watch is in a beautiful condition!

I did more damage to my watch while gardening!!

Lovely watch but it's sad that your safe gets to enjoy it more than you do.

Gorgeous Tommy. You mentioned the dial was from a service center closing out? What did/does the original dial look like if you still have it?

I actually restored the watch.

I had the case pro polished as Rolex would have if they still would touch those watches.

The bezel is NOS service part that I bought from Andrew Shear.

The hands are original.

It hadn't seen much polishing so it was a good candidate but it had been polished previously and the lines weren't sharp. now it is proper.

The original dial had been refinished by Rolex NY imo at some other juncture.

They used to do that on watches where service dials were not common.

There was even a place on old paper work to check a box "refinish dial".

The dial has this distinctive bad crown on it that is indicative of watches I have seen from the late 60's that were all done in NY....so that is an assumption.

The owner of course says he doesn't remember ever having it refinished (they never do). At any rate it wasn't an original dial so a service dial that looks like THAT was a no brainer. :-)
