Importance of Rolex Warranty & Trusted Sellers

Hi All,

I am in the market for my first Rolex Purchase and am interested in your thoughts in how important getting the Rolex Warranty from an AD (for a new piece) is.

Also, if I were to buy from a Rolex Forum Trusted Seller, I'm unclear on this, but does that include the Rolex Manufacturer's warranty? Sorry for the rudimentary questions, but interested in the collected wisdom of the forum.

Thanks in advance!

It is my understanding that the Warranty goes with the watch, so if the watch has warranty left the trusted seller will list it in the for sale ad

I got mine from a trusted seller on here with a full 5 year warranty. It was actually shipped strait from the dealer. Dated the day before with my name on the card.

I did specify that that is what I wanted but it took him about 2 days to make it happen.

If the price is right, it doesn't need any warranty at all.

I had a conversation with one of these trusted sellers asking for the same thing. He hemmed and hawed and tried to push another watch on me sourced overseas. At the end of the day my AD came through on a deal only $250 more then what the grey dealer was asking.

I could see that happening. Like every business they have inventory to manage and their own sources are limited. I was not in a rush so I told him if he could make it happen then I would buy it from him. Then he made it happen. I have not met an AD yet who would have matched (or even come close) to what I got on a SS GMTII

I have purchased a number of watches from both ADs and trusted sellers (SDWatches, OCRolexguy, and David SW). IMHO trusted sellers are the way to go and can save you a lot of money. Furthermore, I have never had any problem getting service from the manufacturer if the watch was under warranty regardless as to where I purchased the watch (AD or trusted seller).

It has also been my personal experience that having a relationship with a trusted seller is much better than with an AD. Trusted sellers always remember you but AD salespeople forget about you the moment you leave the store.

Cheers,

Jonathan

Always ask the seller to confirm if it comes with the warranty card or not. TS usually refers to a seller that has a connection with one or more ADs and will come with a warranty card. A gray market seller also gets watches from ADs but without warranty cards. Instead they may have their own warranty. AD or TS are the way to go as far as my advice. Go with an AD if you can get within a few hundred of a TS. But chances are you cannot.

I'd almost consider this to actually buying straight from an AD but going through a TS as a broker. Not bad if you get the deal you want.

Mailed straight to you from an AD with your name on the card. To me that is just like walking into a store and buying it. What difference is there except for payment and delivery?

Of course a warranty is important when buying a new Rolex, especially since the warranty is now five years. Yes, they are built like tanks and chances are great you will not need it, but at these prices it's a big plus in my view. If buying from an AD you will get a warranty. If buying from a trusted seller here, almost for sure you will. Just read the ad and if it doesn't say so simply ask.

Where it gets iffy is with the larger internet grey dealers. Many of them do not include the warranty card and therefore you do not have the factory warranty. What you usually do get is their own warranty in its place.

The only difference was I got a rediculous price. I have spoken to quite a few ADs and none of them would have given me (or any other regular customer) that same deal. Maybe if I had spent $200,000 would they have given me half of what I got off of it.

While this is true of the internet dealers like Jomashop, now that Rolex swipes/receives the warranty automatically from the AD at time of purchase, the warranty is probably activated anyway, regardless of card or not.

Same with an open warranty card from a trusted seller, the real start date is at the moment of purchase so this needs to be clarified with the seller, probably a few days or weeks earlier.

Well, Rolex doesn't swipe anything. The AD swipes the card into the Rolex system when they sell a watch. So, yeah, if the AD swiped it before they sold it to the grey dealer, which is in doubt. But it's a mute point if you don't have the card. No card...no warranty.

For a BNIB, you will most likely get the full warranty with the watch. If you are in the market for a pre-owned item, you can always send it to Rolex for a service, whereupon you will receive a two year warranty from Rolex. A Rolex service runs around $700 for SS models...so factor that into your cost.

I wouldn't take the risk of having no card either, but I think a fair few RSCs will accept a lost card excuse and still work on it if it's in the system and under warranty.
