Icon10 How do you enjoy your Rolex??

Hi guys,

I was just wondering how do you enjoy wearing your watches? Are you very outgoing and like wearing your watches at the restaurant, bars, clubs, beach and such...

I am asking because lately I have been staying at home a lot with no regret. I am happily married and I like it that way. I would say that I am passed my prime when it comes to socializing or having many activities where wearing a nice watch would be a non-negligible asset.
However, one might wonder what is the point of having many beautiful watches if it is to stay home all the time.

For myself, I just like wearing a nice piece and looking at it while on the computer or while watching TV for instance. That's probably the two things I do the most at the moment besides kickboxing and lifting weights (and I ain't a loser lol).
Bottom line is how do you guys feel about having numerous expensive pieces and not having the opportunity to wear them in public that much.

Is it just for pure self-satisfaction or do you sometimes feel a bit the same way than I?
Do you rotate your watches even if you stay home? I am not talking about people whose line of work or activities where a nice watch is considered a fine complement, but rather for retired people, family men or home-loving folks like me.

Best,

Vin

I have an intrinsic pleasure in my watches knowing that they are deeply rooted in history and are fascinating quality machines on my wrist. I don't have them to impress others; others have no clue half the time whether it's a Timex or Rolex. Only watch connoisseurs will recognize and comment. (Has happened only twice) I appreciate the excellent craftsmanship and rigorous testing every Rolex has undergone. These reasons combined are why I wear Rolex and that for me is good enough.

I just get a kick out of my watches, whether I'm at home or out and about.

I don't spend an inordinate amount of time at home, though.

Structure and social activities are part of my retirement game plan.

I wear mine to work an no one notices. I wear mine to dinner and no one notices. I wear mine on vacation and no one notices. I wear mine to the gym and the hardware store and to pick up dog poop in the yard and no one notices but me. And I smile every time I think about it.

I'm always out and about with a Rolex on my wrist, but if for some reason I became housebound I would still wear a Rolex watch.

For me its all about the story that brought each watch to my collection and the pleasure I gain just catching a glimpse of the watch and remembering it.

I rotate mine and some look and feel better outdoors, such as my blue Subc and some better indoors such as my old GMTc. I try to match the watch to where I get the most of it.

I am a work-gym-stayhome kind of guy most of the time. At my 47's I also passed my prime of socializing and prefer the quietness of my couch along with my family. I am currently in the honey moon phase with my recently acquired SD 4000 and cannot stop looking at him. I wish the day had more hours to keep enjoying this beauty. I don't really care if other people look at my watch or not. Like someone said, I also get a kick out of looking at my watch every minute even if I am not looking at the time. I was wearing my other watches in rotation until I got this one. Now I plan to wear this baby for a longgg time.

Good retirement game plan my friend! I also force myself to go out once in a while but always end up looking forwards to my cozy home.

Congrats on your new Sea Dweller! I bet it is a substantial piece and a pleasure to look at. I can relate when you say you can't stop looking at it. I am the same way. I also came down from many watches to just one at the moment which is all I need. Less headache when you stay home a lot haha!!!

I enjoy my watch everywhere and anywhere. Even if I know I'll be home all day I still put my watch on. Not because it's a Rolex, just because I enjoy wearing a watch.

I enjoy wearing Rolex for its reliable style at work and when traveling. At home I don't wear a watch. Rolex are also my only mechanical watches that actually keep decent time vs brand O or J.

Also late 40's, home a lot, out and about with errands few times a week. Not much night life these days. Don't feel complete until I put my watch on daily!:)

epic quote!!!

Unfortunately i only wear it two days a week. I work in a physical job that requires alot of movement. Last thing i want to do is hit it against something in the shop. Wish i could wear it at work because I am a salesman. The first day I got the watch i did go to the cheesecake factory for happy hour and my eyes really opened up. I always find my self looking at peoples wrists. I Looked across the bar and spotted an oyster bracelet. Went up to the chap and talked to him about rolexs. Was pretty cool first day experience to meet someone else with one. For me it used to be shoes now its watches that i recognize in public.

I find a lot of pleasure in just looking down and admiring my watch. It's not always a Rolex, but I very much enjoy the history and precision of watches.

I buy and wear my watches for me and don't care if anyone notices at all. Truth be told I don't like it when people notice. I get my joy by looking at what's on my wrist. To me watches are the best hobby I have found. You don't need to go anywhere or do anything to enjoy them. I am currently downsizing another collection that sits in the safe for months at a time to buy more watches that I can actually use and enjoy more.

With some fava beans and a nice chianti...flfflffllllh

I enjoy not having to pull my phone out to check the time.

To add perspective to the topic, some collectors lock their watches up without ever wearing them. In the end, we all enjoy our watches in our own special way.

I have to say, wearing a nice piece in certain social situations can feel good when noticed and conversations ensue. As stated above, wearing at home, wearing every single day, wearing for every activity, is how I prefer to enjoy my watches...

Not quite a shut-in, but have to stay home most of the time due to age related infirm.
BUT, never miss a day wearing one of my ROLEX watches.

Alternate daily between my Sub and DJ except when, at times, a planned event (wardrobe) dictates that one or the other is more appropriate.

My personal comfort guidelines;

I wear a shirt and tie daily so either is fine at work, beach/boat obvious Sub situation, suit/jacket calls for DJ. Weekends in a t-shirt (no shirt) Sub and ,for me, because there is gold in it anything with a collar, golf shirts included, is ok with the DJ but I won't wear it with a t-shirt or without a collar...

It's always deeply disappointing when other people don't notice. ;-)

You are deluding yourself. Rolex marketing means every man and his dog will recognise a Rolex at ten paces. Just because they don't comment, doesn't mean they can't see.
