Patek Nautilus VS Aquanaut
Patek Nautilus (SS) VS Aquanaut (either rubber or SS), which would you pick and why?
I used to think the Nautilus SS was nice, but recently I grew to like the look of the rubber Aquanaut. If I had to choose one, I can't make up my mind though. Thoughts? |

Can't go wrong here! I've come to find when I am trying to decide between 2 pieces I end up with both one way or another in this case the 5167 had to go and the hunt is on for a 5711a. Good Luck!

I ended up getting the 5164 because the wait list for the 5167 was 3-4 years in Japan and the 7211 nautilus is 5 years. Availability affected my purchasing decision. Don't think I'm disappointed though.
I did end up buying a 5167 SS bracelet to try on my 5164. Sadly, no wrist shot because it's being re polished and repaired for the last month (and maybe longer.) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If you ask for general opinion, the answer is clear - Nautilus is a more popular line. But all comes down to your preference.

Sometimes I prefer the subtle delicacy of the nautilus bracelet and other days the arguably more interesting aquanaut dial. Sent from my SM-N920I using Tapatalk |

Nautilus. Then aquanaut. But if you have to decide just on one piece. Go for the 5711. Is a fantastic dress watch, and the bracelet is a beauty.

Both are great and many people own and wear both. It's almost like asking which is better, a Sub date or an Explorer 1? No wrong answer. Try to find one of each to try on your wrist before making a purchase though because you may like one better than the other in person.

Dress up, dress down, hospital scrubs, sport, pool/beach, and all the while keeping it under the radar with that tropical, non-bling strap. I'm a one watch guy, definitely the minority here, and this just fits my life right now.

Really tough call, only definitive answer is get both.
I currently have a 5167R. Love the SS 5167 too. I like the sportiness of the 5167 a tad more than the 5711. It seems more of a modern and cool look to me IMO. (I usually dress very casual). Here is a thread I posted with that very same question that might be helpful: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...=434441&page=3 |

Both of course, my answer is a little more expensive, but I got the 5712 and 5167R, which IMO, are the best of each line, the RG Aquanaut just pops, amazing in the sun, and the 5712 has the same case and blue as the 5711, with a few complications which I really like, the PR and moon phase are 2 simple complications that are useful for the PR, and nice to look at for the MP. If I really had to choose, luckily I don't, I would pick the 5712, or in a duel 5711/5167 would pick the 5711, the Aqua is an awesome watch in it's own right, but the Nautilus is so sexy

Grab a 5980 or 5990 and call it a day.
But from those choices 5711. |

I went with the 5711 for many reasons. History and iconic design/status were at the forefront. Also, the dial on the 5711 is mesmerizing and pictures truly do not do it justice. Can't go wrong with either

I had both, 5711 is still around. Didn't feel like I needed two watches with that movement.

I'd pick the Aquanaut. I really like how light this watch is on the rubber strap. It is so comfortable, you hardly know you are wearing a watch. But to be fair, I like some of the Nautilus versions. You have great options!

Actually i very much prefer the 5711... the Classical Genta design .. however i discover a tiny flaw in the case design cause it is a top and bottom case design and need a black rubber or silicon seal inbetween them. Thus i read and search many forum and there are cases of water ingress in 5711 which might due to the wear and tear of the seal .. My next watch is going to be 5712 and i need to research properly so that the watch can really last long..

In the past I have been fortunate to own both.
IMO,it depends on how you will be using the watch. Personally I see the Aquanaut as a tool watch and great to be worn under most circumstances. In recent years I have become a strap fan, though I liked the 5711A it always worried me about marking the bracelet. Recently I traded my SDc 4000 for an Aquanaut, which fits my wrist like a glove and I have no worries when I catch the rubber strap :)

This is a topic that comes up regularly and it is always interesting to hear others opinions.
I started out with the 5711 and then couldn't stop thinking about the 5167 so 2-3 years later I added one to my collection. I am impressed by the 5167 since it seems to be more of a versatile watch and honestly one of my most comfortable watches. So far so good but here comes the kicker....I'm now toying with the idea of selling the 5167 to upgrade to the 5164. Why? Even though I like both watches I think they are indeed very similar in shape and design. So to summarize...the first Patek you pick probably won't be your last and then figuring out where to go will drive you nuts. |
