I'm on the fence - please help! ROYAL OAK DUAL TIME REF. #26120ST.OO.1220ST.01
Hello AP Section,
I'm considering my first AP. A friend of mine owns a reference #26120ST.OO.1220ST.01 and is considering letting it go for what I think is a good price. It is in very, very nice condition. My question for the forum is: would you consider this to be a good option even if it would be my only AP (at least for some time)? Do you have a better suggestion for me should I only buy one for my collection? Thanks in advance. https://www.audemarspiguet.com/en/wa...T.OO.1220ST.01 ![]()

I think that's a fine choice for a one and only AP. I'm a fan of GMT and dual time watches. I've been tempted to flip or trade my ro 15400st for Takuya's black dual time.
If APSC won't give me the option to swap my 15400 dial to blue, I may consider going for a dual time myself. ig - @kakashi_gram |

Not a bad first AP watch. If you want something sporty i would consider a AP diver or ROO. But if you were leaning towards a RO then i would say a dual time is a great choice over lets say a normal 15400 or 15300.

That's a great 1st and only AP.
![]() I've actually considered it as well...now, if I could only find one in the flesh to see that dial |

I love AP and I love dual time watches, but for me the AP Dual Time just doesn't work. Personally, for a one and only it would have to be a Royal Oak. Depending on budget that means 15202 or 15400/300.

Thanks for the responses. It is definitely an unorthodox look.

I'm on the fence about the white face as well, and I don't own any blue faced watches because I always felt they wouldn't match as easily.

As dual times go the AP is not one of my faves, and I'd rather have a simpler RO, plus resale is stronger on those too.

Not my favorite ... would go 15300/400 depending on wrist size and preference. Of course, if budget allows, 15202 is a no brainer.
If you prefer bigger, sportier watches, then you'll need to look into the ROO line (44mm being the king of the hill).

I have always liked the dual time. Good as an only AP.

I would go for the 15400 or 153000 as a first AP or if your budget allows go straight to the Jumbo 15202ST.

I like the dual time functionality, but visually I don't think its as well executed as it could be. I have three other GMTs but no desire for the AP. So very useful for me as I travel a lot, but visually, meh...many others I prefer more.

Same here, big fan of the comp but not of the dial layout here.

I had the 26120 in rose gold. I got bored of it very quickly!

I think you may be right. It is interesting, but so are other options I've been looking at that are less expensive.

If it sings to you go for it. But if you're more tempted because its your friend and because it is a good price, you'll probably end up moving it later at a loss. I've also had an opinion that GMT watches look better because of better symmetry and since when I travel I'm often in pools/lakes/oceans, I want more than 50m WR. I don't want to have to put it in the hotel safe

It's aactually a great choice... Very useful complication and you rarely see one in the wild
One of the trusted sellers has a black dial version just serviced for sale, make sure to compare the price.

I was debating between dual time and chrono. Same size 39mm. At the end i choose chrono because dual time doesnt have second hand.

Another not so great aspect of the DT is that the movement isn't at all AP. Nothing wrong with JLC, but the same exact movement is also in JLC watches.
It wasn't a deal breaker for me, but for a 36K euro watch I'd expect a bit more... It is a nice complication, but the dial is very very busy. After a while it gets to you.

The AP dual time is my first AP.. loves the dual time and power reserve complication .. although it is using similiar JLC movement but 1 crown you can set all the features. JLC and VC have similar one but they need another crown and it looks ugly.. i feel AP the best looking of the 3. However i would like to highlight 3 bad points..
1. You might have difficulty telling the date as sometime the hands would block the date wheel plus the date below are inverted (doesnt helps) 2. If you dun wear the watch often u need a winder cause it is quite an as5 to change date. You need to adjust to 9pm then to over 12 then the date jump one. There is no quick set for date. 3. The watch (9 mth old) stop on my twice with the power reserve at full (i have a few watches in rotation but they are always in winders). Both time it stop at 15:15 hours.. i send it in for repair but AP said nothing wrong with watch and passed QC... sold the watch immediately. ![]() |

Don't buy an AP just because it's the least expensive, but a watch because you love it. If you really like one, it might be worth the wait to save a little until you can fit it in the budget. My .02. |

Holding off is a smart move. Set your sights on a must have piece and wait for when the time is right. I like the dual time but only with the blue dial.

I'm a big fan of dual-time watches.
But, if only one AP, I would recommend 15202ST (40th anniversary). |
