No longer in the club
I'm sad to say that I'm no longer an AP club member. I recently let my 15400 go. I really did like the watch, it was a hard decision. I think my issue was defining what type of watch it was.
A sports watch? It could be. But the bling factor and the fact that it scratches just by looking at it detracted from it being a true sports watch. Well then it must be a dress watch. I tried to make it work, but it just did not look right to me dressed up. Maybe it was the size of the dial. Anyways, I think my next purchase will be the 15202. I'm not sure when I'll be ready but I think the 15202 may fit the bill a little more than the 15400. Hopefully though this hiatus won't be too long!

Don't let the door....oh wait, wait...sounds like you might buy another
![]() Seriously, I can see that dilemma with the 15400. Might a ROO tempt you--100% sport? Or as you mentioned 15202 which is dress (with a slight sport feel--you might end up in same quandry) |

You're right could be in the same boat. But I think the smaller dial will look and feel better with cuffs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

As much as I love the 15202 I think you will end up in the same boat as the 15400.

The 15202 is an iconic sporty dress watch, as is the 5711 Patek, they work fine with suit or casual, maybe try the 5711, in any case these watches are not dress and not sport, which I find great, they are very versatile, if you want a clearly defined watch, sport or dress then maybe go for something else, since it seems to be what bothers you, don't think it will change with the Jumbo

15202 or 300 is a great size for a dressy sports watch, at 41mm I think the ROC is better balanced, David Walliams, a big comedian here wears his with a suit and looks dashing, Jimmy Carr wears a 5712 and is even more dapper, and James Corden a 15400, great to watch them all on the same sports panel show, A League of their Own. Jamie Redknapp wears an AP Carbon Concept, his cousin Frank Lampard wears a 5980/1R and his dad, the shame of the family, Harry but who should still be the England manager, wears a Hublot.

5711 is a good bet for a next piece. It's the perfect size 40mm, sporty and rugged, it was made for everyday activities, 202 will be worse on the wear and tear and it doesn't have a screw down crown like the 15400 / 300. The 5711/A would also be in the same price range as the 202, if you find it at retail and no waiting list of course..............

I absolutely love my 15400 but you are right about being a scratch magnet. I am now contemplating adding a white dial Diver of a 44mm novelty for sporting duty.
It's tough because if I sold the 15400 it would be easy for me to get the 44mm but I think I would miss it. Want to try and keep the 15400 in the stable. It will always be my first AP love. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I agree with Russ - I think the Jumbo will have you in the same boat. I heavily considered the Diver because it's clearly a sports watch - no confusing that one!
My wife vetoed that one, and I'm not going to fight her on that when she'll be happy if I buy a Sub instead. |

I have always preferred the 39mm on the Royal Oak. For sporty watches, I will go with the offshore. 41mm just feels kind of off to me. I think it has to do with the lug size being same as 39mm while the enlarged diameter makes the watch comes across as "bloated".

I think you hit the nail on the head here. It felt "bloated". I must admit I loved the dial and pretty much everything else about it. That's why I thought maybe a 15202. Also a bit thinner so might fit better with cuffs. Just not sure I'm ready to pay for the upgrade. Quote:
I've thought about a diver but it may be too sporty lol. My sub LV fits well in the diver category. Quote:
Honestly I've thought a lot about the 5711. A bit more than the 15202. I wish I could try them both on. They're both so hard to locate. Quote:
Good points. Thank you! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

For me 39mm is the perfect dressy sport AP so I went 15300 for the crown, quick date set, and seconds hand. For pure sport wear the larger ROCs make good sense. Hopefully you're back soon with a new incoming!

I think you are confusing that it needs to be one or the other!
![]() In all honesty I think it does work for both but mostly wear mine for a little more dress. |

A lot of the same sentiments here. Traded my silver dialed 15400on a WG Patek Calatrava. Different direction but one that I prefer. Especially with a sub-c as a casual/weekend watch. Loved a lot about the 15400 but wish it came in a 39mm case. Too big and glitzy and that is coming from someone with larger then average wrists. I would like to go back to AP as time and finances allow but not sure I go the 15400 route again. Multiple trips to Clearwater between October 2014 when I got it and April 2016 didn't exactly do much to reinforce my confidence in the watch either. |

Yeah we're on the same page. Absolutely loved the watch but I think the size just wasn't right. Maybe a 15300 would fit the bill. However for what they are going for it seems to maybe make sense to just go for the 15202 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

15202 is the perfect size and feel for me. Had a 15400 in the past and quickly sold it.
But the 15202 does stand out too. If I'm dressed up and look in the mirror all I see is the watch. Maybe it's the shine or the strong angularity of the case but it just sticks out. You need to be comfortable with that or the 15202 won't be worth the change. |
