Hello fellow TRF members,

Since joining this forum I`ve been more and more inclined too purchase a Tudor, the Black Bay Blue to be precises.

The history of the model and the clean design really speaks to me. And I`m missing av blue watch in my collection (and the GMT BLNR is not blue enough).

But should I visit the second hand market and get an ETA version or just go to my local Tudor/Rolex AD and buy a in house version?

Ofcoures there is some money to be saved by going for option 1 but i feel that option 2 is more "real" (in lack of a better word), the again option 1 could become a collectible in time.

Any of you faced a similar choise? What would to do?

I'm not at all afraid of ETA. I own two Tudor Submariners. Very pleased.

i think eta, a bit thinner and easily serviced. I think someone said Tudor may pop new movements into the black bay rather than fix it - not sure that's a fact though. 70 hour PR is an advantage but I don't wear this watch as a daily so less relevant to me. Good luck! I think I finally give the edge to the newer bracelet. I like the eta dial better though.

I would go in house personally and in fact I have. I have a Back Bay Black and the Bronze.

I purchased two BB, one Red and black bezel. I have no intentions to purchase an in-house BB. I really do like the dial of the ETA version.

For me I prefer my eta version because I like that it can be serviced,unlike the inhouse that apparently can't be serviced and must be replaced at high expenses.rose dial,slimmer case back and Im not a fan of the rivit bracelet personally

In house for me. Prefer the straight text on the dial and the shield. Rivet bracelet has a great look as well.
Nothing against the ETA either. Stellar watch no matter which way you go.

Yeah, I don`t mind if it`s a rose or a shield on the the dial. But I have to say that you guys make a compelling argument when it comes to servicing. If the in house is expensive to service than that is a big disadvantage.

If it's only about the movement and not the dial, ETA is the way to go
- it's an excellent movement that has even been modified by Tudor
- is cheaper to service
- i have that BB red with ETA and has been no more than +2sec day.

In house :
- more expensive to service
- the 70 hr reserve is moot because the watch has no date or complication to set.
It takes all of 5 seconds to set the watch
- it also is a bit thicker which may or may not be a concern with some

I've got an ETA Black Bay. It's very accurate.

I've heard rumors that the service costs on the new in-house Tudors may be higher than you'd expect, but I don't know if they're true..

In what way exactly? It's yet to prove that, IMO. The eta 2824 has been around for more than 50 years, and improved and fine tuned over that time, and it's modified by Tudor. The Top Grade version has a solid reputation for reliability and accuracy.

I look forward to trying the new Black Bay with inhouse movement. I have the ETA BB. I like it. I managed to regulate it to +3 seconds a day, but I find power reserve to be not as good as in my Rolex submariner.
