rolex day date gold on leather strap?
Hi what is the general view on removing the president bracelet and fitting a brown leather strap. Im thinking of doing this to make the watch more discreet and get more wear out of it. forums views wanted.

I like the 36 mm on the oem alligator. I don't like the DD on most after market straps.

IMHO it doesn't look too good because of the empty space between the lugs where the spring-bars are. There will be a gap between the strap and the case.
What I mean is that other factory gold models like Datejusts and Daytonas come with attached gold end-links and the strap starts from there, which in return gives the head a much more substantial and homogeneous look. There is a Rolex Day-Date that comes stock with the strap and does look good. It is the reference 118138. However, you can see that Rolex added a little bit of metal to fill the space I was telling you about to compensate and it works. Here are pictures of a 118138, a Daytona, a Datejust, and finally a President Day-Date on a strap like you plan on doing. See for yourself. Getting a DD40 soon and may also swap the bracelet for a strap every now and then. Go for it, it's your timepiece and feel free to band swap (curved ends as others mentioned) :)

For the end links you found on Ebay, does the color match the yellow gold well?
thanks |

Personally I don't like it. I have a DD and I think the president bracelet makes the watch.

Buy what you like and wear it! Don't worry about what others think, you paid for the watch with your money, so you get to display it on whatever strap you want to!...Personally, I think that the DD looks fantastic on a leather strap, whether it's distressed brown leather, or a more formal black leather. I say go for it!
And seriously, no one notices, or cares about any gaps between the head and the lugs that's creatd by a non-Rolex leather strap, unless it's the wearer of the watch. Seriously, get over yourselves! |

I have a Horween shell cordovan strap from Bulang and Sons that I switch to sometimes. I think it looks good and it's really comfortable.

You did well my friend. The president bracelet is so nice to look at and add some substance to a rather small 36mm head. Both together are fire!!!!

Although most would likely say a Day Date needs to be on the President bracelet I've seen some vintage Day Dates on distressed leather and they look amazing. Seems to look best on vintage WG DD 36mm IMO.
