Haggling in Hong Kong (Rolex and JLC)?

Hi,

I am currently in HongKong on a vacation and have checked out a few ADs so far.
However I have come across only very few SS sport models so far. No Hulk, no Batman, not even a SubC. Only thing I found was the SD4k.
Very odd. Also the prices were about thevsame as in Europe (and there is no VAT to be paid in HK).
I have heard that the ADs give 5% discount on Rolex but all in all I am a bit disappointed.

However I might be in the market for a Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Perpetual Calendar Q130842J.
Can you guys recommend an AD that will give me a good discount on that?
I am looking for a discount of 20-25%. Would that be realiistic?
Any specific AD thatvis recommended for JLC?

I would be hesitant to grey on this for fear of fakes.

Many thanks

Hi,

First post but I'll get stuck in!

I was in HK last December and most recently this September. I was a bit disappointed with the prices as I found them more expensive than back home (UK) and even more so after BREXIT and the sterling devaluation. All the Rolex AD's I passed were empty on both times I visited HK and from anecdotes I've heard from others they still wont discount heavily.

As for JLC The AD in the IC Mall in Central is the only JLC AD I saw when I was there. Not sure on what sort of discount you could haggle but that was the only watch AD where one of the sales assistants came outside and spoke to me while i was doing some window shopping so desperation might be setting so might be worth a try!

OP: Get busy on Chrono24 and find yourself some highly-rated Hong Kong Grey Market Dealers.

Search for the model you want on chrono24 and look for HK trusted sellers with good reputation. They will have a trusted seller icon and it will even tell you if they have a brick and mortar store.

I have had two very good experiences purchasing from Phoenix Watches. Highly recommended. A forum search will bring up my posts made at the times of both purchases.

Managed to secure a batman from a HK AD a couple of months ago, got 5% off list. Ended up cheaper from AD then grey dealers, as they don't charge card fees. I visited many AD and found 3 AD with a batman, saw at least another 2-3 grey dealers with the watch in their displays. I think if looking at PM watch, grey is likely going to be cheaper.
