'Roulette' date wheel
recently bought a Datejust 116231 (Everose and S/S with black dial)
i notice is has the Roulette date wheel with alternating red and black dates there was no mention of this when i placed the order and looking on the Rolex web site there is no reference to this particular date wheel? so what do you know about this combination please? |

Roulette date wheels are officially available on Rolesor models with certain dials (36mm size only). In the dial master catalogue, ones marked with an asterisk can come with the roulette, but it is somewhat hit and miss. I have seen them come from the factory on all steel models as well

that's correct about some of the 116200 steel models having the roulette date wheel.

so it seems its totally hit and miss depending on the parts Rolex have at the time they build a watch?
bit like Land Rover my 'new' shape Range Rover L405 was an early car and had a lot of 'high end' options fitted as standard eg cooled seats, highest spec leather and audio system they wanted the cars supplied quickly and used whatever 'parts' they had available provided of course they were 'better' than normal spec? suits me as i got a Vogue to nearly Autobiography spec but at the Vogue price |

New to learn.
I thought the roulette wheel was discontinued, as it wasn't listed in the usual catalogue. Glad that it is still kicking around. Some time in the beginning Rolex changed red from odd to even, OP is your roulette red on even dates? Interesting bit on the RR, I heard the parts stuff was a myth sometime decades before.

Picture was taken on the day I picked it up. Those are the saleslady's fingers, by the way.

It depends on the dial, as to whether the roulette date wheel is available.

True story: I own a 116234 36mm DJ with Silver Stick Dial and Oyster Bracelet. It has a roulette date wheel! Yet, according to the Rolex catalogue it is NOT supposed to have a roulette date wheel.
I truly love the roulette date wheel on my watch, and I think it is special to have considering that the official "Rolex rules" indicate that this particular model does not come with roulette. Here is a picture of the exact model of my watch (mine has the red numbers on odd days): Last edited by climblaw25; 27 November 2016 at 03:25 AM.. Reason: clarify |

Here's a link you might find of interest. http://www.oysterworld.de/dials-bracelets.html Takes some digging but go to the section on "Dials", scroll down to about page 35 and you can see the DJ models that have the roulette wheel. They are marked with an asterisk (*). I probably missed something but in general it looks like the 36mm DJ in SS as well as TT have the roulette depending on dial color (black, white, silver, black concentric) and markers (sticks and Arabic). Check it for yourself and see what all you can find.

Love the roulette date wheels. Gives the watch a little 'something special,' IMO.
