Day-date vs Datejust

Can someone enlighten me as to why the DD is about 4 or 5 times the price of a DJ, I realize it has the day but is there something else I am missing?

It makes everything more complicated on the inside... and they think us people who can't remember what day it is will be willing to fork over the extra $$ just to find out.

Most DJ's are either SS or TT versions.

Not sure if they still do, but some time in the distant past Rolex did offer the DJ in 18ct all gold version. The price differential between that and the YG DD's would have been closer.

I see, its the choice of the materials used.

Back in the late 1980's Rolex brought out the DD Tridor in 18ct WG. The centre links were made up of yellow/pink/white gold.

Did not sell well and the line was later dropped. It was part of the DD family.

All Day-Dates are made of 18ct Yellow, White and Rose Gold, or Platinum. As has been said, an 18ct Datejust is not far off the price of the Day-Date.

The DD is manufactured ONLY in precious metals - either YG, WG, RG or Platinum.

The DJ, on the other hand, is available in SS, TT as well as YG models.
