What do you think about the Calatrava 96?

Is it a good watch? Is it collectible? Does it have any issues? Should I buy one? Where can I find one unworn or mint?

Year and metal doesnt matter. I just want it because its the first calatrava reference.

Thank you for your input.

It's the original, and classic, in a long lineage. Most will say it's much too small by today's standards, and i tend to agree, but if you're slight of build or just appreciate a true classic, then I'd say go for it.

Finding one in the condition you require will prove challanging, but that's often half the fun!

Here's mine on a 7.25 inch wrist. It's a fine watch. If you want new or like new, you'll have to look at international auction houses or wait a long time for just the one.

If you can get one for a few thousand that just came back from service it may be a good deal. You already know it is very small, ladies size really, yet a classic to some. Being very old means you need to be extremely careful and have the watch/movement checked to ensure everything is correct. If it is not, getting it back to proper order can cost more than you paid for the watch(!) so be very careful.

To be fair, finding one in the condition he's requesting is probably going to cost somewhere in the $7-10k range, and likely closer to 10k for one that's really pristine and unmolested.

Finding one like that for " a few thousand" would be a terrific deal - I'd take several at that price, ladies sized or not.

You're right, for me a few is less than 10. Should not have generalized as much. Usually i go a few, 10, 20, 30, etc. So 7 is a few.

Thanks. Exactly what I am looking for. Nice website too. Can you reccomend other websites to find vintage watches?

That's a completely restored one, which is a bit of a no-no in vintage watch collecting. Original is always best. It's also the steel version which is more rare than the gold versions. A very good Gold version of the 96 should go for around 6-8k. Steel from 12-30k. White gold 40k+.

Check chrono24 or auction houses. You won't find steel or white gold versions for sale often. However, yellow gold can be had in abundance.
