Vintage Help from the Pros

I have started wanting to put the bits together for my Red Sub IV/1970

Would anybody mind looking at

http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Rolex-Tr...ayphotohosting

Let me know if you think it looks legit / good.

I can't believe how expensive the "bits" are - I would just love to get close to a complete package even though - I will never have papers. I will have recent RSC documentation to go with this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
It looks good to me, but I am sure you can get one cheaper than that.
I have seen them on ebay for better money than that, but as you say the prices of bits has gone through the roof especially the little bits like tags, booklets and anchors.
Personally I think it is ridiculous money, but it does add to the value of the watch whether it is enough to justify the outlay remains to be seen.

Thanks Spark - the money is huge... I am considering waiting and see if another comes up at less money. Thanks for looking at it.

I can't even find the 1970 Shrimp Box - there are a couple of the "Non Shrimp" boxes which I understand are correct for that period however - the "shrimp" boxes are more collectible - supposedly.

Jackson,
By Shrimp do you mean Seahorse?

Here is my take on this crown tag -

The tag is priced under market value which normally sell, at least the last few I've seen, way over $1,000. The seller knows vintage Rolex very well, and knows market prices.

Based on his response to this question:

Q: Sorry, but is this really original Rolex
A: Hi, I brought this from a vintage watch shop & the seller told me that it's original. BTW, I can fully refund if it is not. Regs/ectokei

And his claim in the item description that is 100% genuine, along with the low selling price, I wouldn't buy this tag. Sounds to me like he isn't too sure whether it is genuine or not.

If it makes a difference to you, I am looking for a tag like this also, so if anybody has a 100% genuine crown tag for sale like the one in this auction PM me.

John

Stevie, I have a good friend here with two of these tags (they're not for sale) for comparison purposes. It is just too much hassle buying in Hong Kong, and verifying authenticity here and if found to be fake all the hassle of returning it to another country.

The deceptive fake tags are molded from the originals, so you would need one in hand to properly check it with a genuine for authenticity.

Thanks for the info - I will definitely PM you as I try to hunt this down. I agree with you - risk is too high on something like this. No bids yet... Started just below the Buy It Now. I must confess - I have not done much on E-bay in the past so, it has been interesting.

I also have purchased stuff from this seller in H.K. The tag looks real, and it could be. I have one from a '73 1680 and it looks like the one listed. They have gone for more than that on ebay. I guess the decision is yours. Good luck.

GBJIV - Here is the seller's response to me tonight on whether he is 100% sure the tag is genuine. Also, as therolexguy states, it does look genuine, and I agree, but the flags are waving me off.

Response to me from seller of Triplock tag:

Hi,
Yes, I am not sure as I don't have another one to compare. If you feel uncomfortable to purchase, it's OK. I can also provide 7 days inspection for you, if you found it is not original, I can fully refund to you.
Regs/ec

- ectokei

In the listing though, he states it is 100% genuine. Go figure.
