Icon2 Nico Rosberg Retires!

Bye Nico....

Most interesting part will be who will take his seat.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/formula-1...nounces-shock/

Nico Rosberg, the 31-year-old German who won his first Formula One championship on Sunday, unexpectedly retired from racing on Friday.

In a Facebook post, Rosberg said that winning the title had prompted him to leave the sport. “Since 25 years in racing, it has been my dream, my ‘one thing’ to become Formula One world champion,” he wrote. “And now I’ve made it. I have climbed my mountain, I am on the peak, so this feels right.”

Wow! Frankly, can't say i blame him. To be at the pinnacle of the F1 sport as a driver it takes a lot of time, effort, and family sacrifice.

Sad because everybody expected for him to fight next year defending his title.
I think the pressure and emotions accumulated this season have put him down, it was hell of a season for him.
The guy deserves a break and spend quality time with his family.
Congrats for achieving his dream, F1W.C and I hope to see him come back full power.

He reached the pinnacle of his sport and walks away on top, in health, and lots of cash in the bank. I can't imagine a better way of doing it

If you're going to retire THAT'S the best way to do it. Congrats to him on achieving a dream.

Smart.

Once the passion fades, why risk your life and deal with the crap sponsorship responsibilities anyway. He'll do sport cars and maybe slower tin tops and have more fun again. Today's F1 sucks for the drivers and 31 is actually retirement age.

A real racer would want to defend his title.

But respect his decision.

I'm not a Nico fan, but congrats on winning it all, and walking away healthy, and walking away champ.

A surprising decision but one that shows some maturity, I would say. Many reasons to move on, no doubt, but making family a priority is quite admirable. Knowing when to say when can be difficult --- but he leaves on his own terms as a champion.

A real competitor, he would want to defend their title. As a racer, he's already won

Good for him. Get out while you're still alive. It is a dangerous sport, I am sure the time away from family and loved ones takes a toll on anyone.

x2

It's one thing to shoot for the top and make it. It's another to defend when everyone is going after you.

But no one can take away what he's already accomplished.

Totally not a Rosberg fan, however I totally support and understand his decision, even if I would never dare to do it, myself.

Respect!!!

Well spoken retirement but I can't help but feel if he could have gotten a ride with another team that had a car that was really equal to the Mercedes we may have heard an entirely different announcement today. But there is no such thing; Mercedes clearly has the best car.

A little silly to suggest a guy who just won the World Championship isn't a "real racer".
I have always respected Nico because of his maturity and self control and I feel sure this decision is a reflection of this maturity.
How many times do you have to win the WC to be a "real racer"? Should we discount all those who only won once and retired shortly after?

IWC said it right in their Instagram post to Nico: "There are winners, and there are champions"

Congrats to Nico, and cheers to a great F1 career
