Icon20 Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR

All we know that this accident happened in Qatar on the 15th when a 22-year old driver lost control of the Mercedes-Benz McLaren SLR. We don’t know did the driver survive. We hope for the best, but looking at the pictures it is hard to believe anyone would survive a crash like that.

Money should not be the issue as Qatar is a very rich oil country and it comes to us no surprise that 22-year old ones drive supercars that most of us can only dream of. No information on what was the speed, what the car hit and did it explode(looking at the pictures it seems that it has exploded).

Wow. Wow. That must have been some kind of horrible accident to end up in pieces over that large an area - I'm sure there was an explosion. I don't mean to be crass or cold, and I'm sorry about the young guy that was driving that, but that's sure a waste of a McLaren.......pity.

No SLR's will exist after 2008

Mercedes does not cooperate with mclaren anymore and there is really no point at manufacturing the SLR as there is a much more powerful benz at this moment and at half the price of the SLR. It is the SL 65 AMG black series which has 670 horsepower and that's 44 horsepowers more than the SLR.

The SLR will be replace by an new model the SLC which is a 580 hp car and it is going to be realised somewhere in 2009-2010 the engine is ready the bodywork and all the rest is into research at this moment

Here are some engine specs about the SLC V8 AMG engine 6,2 liters 580 hp. 0-100km 3,8 secs top speed 315 km/h the weight of the car 1650 kilos

150,000 euros is the starting price and they will produce 3000-5000 cars a year

Some think that it will look like this judging by the spy photos but this is not how the car will look in really it is just an assumption

Here is a roadster version that I saw at a Mercedes dealer in Atlanta (GA) on Thursday. They are beautiful cars! Cheers, Bill P.

So... since this is the last year that they will be in production, I have decided that I must freeze time for a few years until I can save up enough to buy one, then let the world commence as normal.
Now, does anyone have a time-freezer?

What is even more impressive than the destruction is the fact that the cabin appears not to have collapsed.

Don't worry Ashley, they'll be available used. Besides, you need a Rolex first, as I'm sure you post more here than on a M-B forum!

It is going to be missed especially the SLR 722 Mclaren

The engine has to be big cause the massive supercharger needs 120 horsepower just to run it

Parts of it are. I am fortunate to have been in the Mclaren SLR/F1 centre where both cars are built, and watched the carbon being put together up close - amazing I also drove an SLR round the track - unbelievable car, but IMO not worth 3 X the £££ of an SL63 AMG...

Have you seen this? Unfortunately, won't be sold in North America. No WINDSHIELD. It's a Stirling Moss commemorative. 75 produced.
The Mercedes-Benz SLR Stirling Moss can accelerate to 62 mph in 3.5 sec. It's capable of 217 mph. So what, you say. Those numbers have become standard supercar fare. The Ferrari Enzo can touch 225 mph. The Corvette ZR1 barrels to 60 mph in 3.3 sec. Ah, but here's the twist -- this SLR does its thing without roof, windows, and windshield.

Have you ever been around ?

In those countries, money flows plenty ( but NOT for all ) and youngsters have nothing else to do but "play" with cars.

No drink, no girls, no interesting TV, no free internet, no...., no..., this is the only way to get some fun !

It is not the only incident, nor the last !
