This or That ...A Lange
Any one familiar with the A Lange&Sohne? It is going to be my first Lange
I could not settle my mind between the two models from Lange. 1. Saxon Annual Calendar white gold 2. Lange 1815 Chrono not Boutique. Both are about the same price. While I love the gorgeous movement of the 1815 chrono, I also find the annual calendar function is useful. In my collection, I have subC pp5167 pp5712 Looking forward to hearing from you all. Appreciate. |

Romantically I love the thought of Lange...reality they dont sing to me...I think the chrono is excellent value for money compared to the 5170 but then the 5170 is a piece of art!

Any reason you're not looking at a Lange 1?

I don't quite get used to the off centre dial. And it is the beautiful case back of the chrono that Lange is well know for ,drawn me to the brand.
Frankly speaking, I was tempted with the lange 1 timezone but i got a small wrist. It looks big on my wrist with its 41.9mm size. |

The 1815 Chrono is a great piece and has the same beautiful movement visible as the Datograph. Rumor is that they have stopped production of non-Boutique models - I am hoping they are coming out with a modified (larger) version at SIHH.

I like both. The calendar is a bit busy but I would miss the date on the 1815 chrono.. Therefore perhaps a datograph?

I would have the 1815 chrono for the movement alone. Legendary

If you'd prefer an automatic, the saxonia dual time is a great choice as well.
Personally, I don't really love chronographs so out of the two you posted I would choose the annual calendar. |

Different movements different feels on the wrist. The saxonia annual calendar is clean and pure with a lovely automatic movement. The 1815 Chrono wears a bit larger and has the gorgeous movement of the Datograph sans the Big date. Try them on, they feel different on the wrist and the saxonia feels dressier.

If function is your priority, then the annual calendar, because the chrono feature has a limited 30-minute counter, not enough to time anything. Also, is date feature important?
Between the two I would lean towards the Chrono for the aesthetics of the dial - the date frame would be big concern for me. Also not a big fan of perpetual calendars. They are a pain to set unless worn daily or put on a winder. For the chrono, I would prefer the boutique edition or the discontinued model over the current standard model, which is sterile in design. Personally, I find the use of an AC more useful then a Chronograph.
Without doubt the movement that drives the chromo is stunning. But my choice is still for the AC.

1815 in this case just for the visual delight of the movement.

Indeed the movement alone can compromise the lack of the AC. That is why I weigh these two models equally important. Quote:

Cheers. It seems a lot of people here outweigh the beauty of the movement to the functions. |

I like the annual calendar in this case. I've never been fond of the look of the 2nd gen 1815 chrono. If it was a 1st gen, that would definitely be my choice

This or That ...A Lange
If I were in the market for a Lange chrono it would be the original Dato or perhaps the new version. The 1815 chrono is rather dull (dial side) IMHO.
So between the 1815 chrono and the Saxonia AC the AC wins for the useful complications. |
