Why watches, and why Rolex?

Hello all.

I am curious to find out why you all are into watches, and then, why Rolex?
I know my reasoning, I am curious to know if anyone else feels as I do...

Let's discuss.

Rolex on Everest, James Bond chose Rolex, Sir Ranulph Fiennes wore Rolex on his expeditions. Need I say more?

I've been into watches ever since I got my first one from my dad after he taught me to tell time. Having a watch on 24/7 became a compulsion when I entered the military and you were considered out of uniform without one. Believing I could never be out of uniform if I never took it off I started wearing one 24/7. Wear something 24/7 and you start becoming attached to it. After awhile I wanted something a little more than the Gshocks, suunto and Garmin I was used to wearing and started looking into mechanical watches. Any journey into mechanical watches will eventually take you to Rolex. Not everyone will stop their journey there but I did. Once there I was hooked and after a few years of saving I bought my first one this year. I now wear a SD4K 24/7. This is also the first time since my first watch that I am not consumed with searching for my next watch.

I really can't explain my fascination with timekeeping and watches. It's just something that has been a part of me since early childhood.

As for Rolex, it's all about history, innovation, value, reputation, classic design, and quality.

When I was 11 or so I read my first James Bond book, and then gobbled up any my mother would buy for me or get from the library. That is when I first registered the Rolex name and the coolness of being able to use a watch as a set of "knuckle-dusters." That impression stayed with me.

I've always had them and my dad had a bunch of seikos. Starting from childhood I went from:

casio > swatch > fossil > tissot > rolex & iwc

I've been into watches since I was a young teen.
Started off with seiko's, esq, movado, Daniel Mink,
Bulova, citizen, tag heuer and breitling... I had a keen
eye and appreciation for fine watches ... The first Rolex
I saw was a two tone DJ on jubilee fluted bezel and
Champagne dial... Classic Rolex !!!! THEN... !!!!!
I saw the blue face TT Submariner and knew i had to have
one, one day... it's all about quality, build , history , wrist
presence, beauty and value .... you get it all in a Rolex!!!

Always liked watches but never really thought about a high quality watch.
Then one day I saw a picture of a gold Cellini (4112) on a black Alligator band and I was hooked.
Rolex - pretty well all Rolex - just look better to me than any other brand.

A watch is the single most important accessory a man can own for starters.

Stories like this and this just fascinate me and exemplify what Rolex stands for in so many ways.

But mostly I just love the look. Rolex pushes innovation and design without going over the top or making poor designs. Not many brands in any market can produce classic, timeless beauty like Rolex can.

I have always liked watches. Dont really know why. Just do. As to Rolex, The Man with the Golden Gun wrist shot of 007's Submariner. Now, I own 2 Tudor Subs. Love 'em.

In the same vein, I like a nice pair sunglasses (RayBan-favorite), a MontBlanc pen and a nice briefcase (London Fog canvas-favorite).

Don't know why but when hit the ground running each morning to my Charge (I am a Methodist Minister), I like my Tudor Submariner on my wrist, Ray Ban Wayferers on my Croakie, Mont Blanc pen and London Fog briefcase in tow.

Daytona is my favorite watch of all time in any price bracket. It is the most reliable most comfortable watch you can own. Not to mention its history and how great it looks on the wrist. I also own AP but I love my daytona. Thats why I own and love rolex.

I've been collecting watches since I was about 10 thanks to my generous mother getting me one for x mas each year. Mostly Swiss army then a couple tags and a breiting when I graduated. I've always been hooked on watches.

Rolex because of the iconic designs once I had the money.

I'm not into Rolex anymore, was at one point with 4 pieces, but unfortunately for my finances, I went to more expensive brands since then...
About watches it's the only thing you can wear as decoration when you are a man, plus I love the mechanical aspect of the thing, used to love gadgets when I was a kid, and also the horological history of a brand. When you go to high end pieces, high end is way above Rolex, basically you are wearing a real piece of art on the wrist, also with high end brands, most people will not know what you have on the wrist at all, whereas with Rolex most people will know what you have.
The Rolex section is nice but check out the Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe and other watches section, some watches there are amazing
