Best man's speech

Ha; just attended a wedding w 15min speech by the best man, 14 of which was rambling. This guy should have had a drink before (know the guy well, he gets in his own head). So what says TRF; speech tipsy/drunk or sober? Lol

How about the fact that you're criticizing the Best Man (a man you know well) on an internet forum behind his back?

Man you need to lighten up. We're Jamaican; if we're not poking fun at each other and chilling we wouldn't be having a good time. Cultural differences I suppose. Oh and btw; I told him the second he sat down; humor cures all. You assume too much wedding was last night; just reliving the evening with the guys.

It isn't about the best man. Tell the room you've never seen your friend happier, that the bride is the best thing that's ever happened to him, wish them all the best and raise your glass.

Depends on the person giving the speech. Some of us can handle our drinks and others not so much. I would have a few but wouldn't even approach drunk as it's not your day to roll the dice with. Short n sweet and get out of the way.

Where I'm from, it's a toast to the newly wed couple - not a "speech". But culture and context can dictate different approaches.

One doesn't need to abstain to do the honors, but at same time the idea is not to embarrass yourself and the groom who selected you for the honor.

But I think another key, to the best man speech is to keep it short! No-one really wants to listen to a 15min speech. I think mine has been 1-2min.

Oh, I've seen a speech from hell too. A wedding where I was the best man, the uncle of the bride pulled up a rough patch that the two (bride and groom) had years back, we're talking 8 years or so back in their relationship when they separated (a Break I guess ) for a few months and both pursued other "tail" while on that "break".

Now talk about GASP.

The father of the Groom told me outside, "if it would have been me, I would have smacked that man silly".
