Panerai Auto movements?

Hi Guys,

I was looking at the Panerai website and they only build 4 movements. None of those movements are in there "Contemporary" series. Who makes there other auto movements like the OP III calibre? is it the same company that makes the manual movements (ETA movements)? I heard somewhere that Rolex had something to do with it, is this true? Are they as good as the Rolex movements?

I is kind of sad that you can buy the watch movement online for under $600.00 When the watch costs over 6K.

That is why I have such a hard time buying many of the Panerai I like...

Don't get me wrong...they are BEAUTIFUL, but man that is a lot of dough for an ETA movement. Will I buy one eventually???

How does the EAT manual movement compare to the Rolex Cellini manual movement?

ETA's are quality movements if well cared for and tuned like Panerai does. You would be very happy with Panerai's quality of movement. The do make modifications to it (ever so slight) and they are fine running watches.

PS, I have no idea about Cellini.

Before I ever saw one in person I was like, no way. Why do people like these?

Then I went to my Rolex AD to look at a Polar Expy II. I was ready to buy it. I tried on the Expy II and it just didn't do it. Told the AD I wanted a white watch. He said, have you considered Panerai? I'm like no way! What does it hurt to try it on?

Bingo! Hooked on Panerai!!!!!!!!

So, is my 16610 worth $5800???? If your talking materials, no way, but somehow it is worth it, just like Panerai. Now it is worth it if you want resale value if your a flipper? Even though these things have "crappy" ETA movements, they still keep their value insanely well. Most are keeping their value better than Rolex!!! No joke!

I'm most likely going to own one one day.

I tried a pile on at Seattle this summer (there is no AD in my town), I love them for sure but I think I will save up and get a 8 Days (That movement is all in house) next year I just don't have the 12K right now. I don't like to cheep out and buy something then sell it used a few months later.
