Is a stainless steel daytona a good watch for a doctor?
I am considering wearing my stainless steel daytona when I am at the clinic seeing patients. Is the daytona too flashy of a watch to wear daily? Any other Docs out there wear one?

Much too flashy, wear your Timex.
Its fine to wear it, its yours to enjoy, if you don't wear it, you don't get enjoyment from it. I have a son who is a Dr. and works in a hospital, he wears his. Wear it in the best of health. |

I typically wore a G-Shock to clinic before I got my new 114200 for Christmas. I made the decision I'm just going to wear it every day. Admittedly it's more under the radar than a Daytona, but your watch is meant to be enjoyed so I vote yes!

I had a Daytona and sold it bc as a surgeon I washed my hands so much the pushers bothered me..and felt like gunk was more likely to get in the nooks and crannies

I expect our good Doctor Tom to be along shortly...who might know a thing or two about the Daytona.
![]() Yes, I think it's a great choice for an MD...although I'm not a doctor. But I can say, if I went to the doctor and he was wearing one, my level of faith in him (or her) would rise considerably. ![]() |

I wear my Daytona to work. I've never had a patient comment on it.

I'm not sure if this is still the case, but I thought doctors used to prefer a central seconds hand to a sub dial. If this is the case, you'd need to engage your stopwatch, or keep it running, if you wanted to use that feature.
"Beginning in the 1940's, as watches became popular with men generally and doctors and other professionals in particular, demand grew for a larger swept area for the seconds hand. This allowed more precise reading of the time down to the seconds." http://www.watch-wiki.net/index.php?...entral_seconds |

My Cardiologist wears a Daytona and I suspect that most of his patients don't recognize what it is. Those that do probably feel that he must be doing something right, especially if they make it to the next appointment.

If i was a doctor which i am not. I'd not wear a watch or ring when operating on a patient coz the last thing i need is opening them up again coz my watch fell in.

Hell YES!!! My GP wears a Zeinth Daytona, amongst others. We chat about watches 1/2 the time I'm there with him. It's fun to goto the doctors, lol.

You should be fine with a Daytona. A great under the radar watch is the Explorer 1. A specialist I know wears his to clinic daily.

Is a stainless steel daytona a good watch for a doctor?
In any profession, as long as it's a watch of good taste (i.e., not some oversized, gaudy, fashion watch), you can wear whatever you like. The only ones who'll notice are those who actually appreciate your good taste.
Can you really imagine someone saying, "I don't like/trust that doc, his watch is too nice?" Caring about quality/craftsmanship not only conveys success, but also confidence and self-worth (usually, anyway). Those aren't terrible traits in a professional. |

I've worn many different models from Rolex and Omega during countless patient treatment encounters/office visits and procedures. All with varying levels of flash. I cannot think of a single time a patient has noticed my watch and commented on it.
Funnily enough, my staff all know I am into watches. They like to comment on what I'm wearing and poke fun when I swap watches at lunch. However, that's just them enjoying teasing their boss in good humor. Wear and enjoy! |

Anyone who's managed to survive pre-med, medical school, and a residency, should be allowed to wear whatever watch he so desires.

Awesome. Good to see other docs wear their Rolexes to work. I am not a surgeon so I dont have to worry about getting gunk on my watch.. Looks like the daytona is going into daily use. I think my clinic jacket covers it mostly anyway.
Cheers!! |

To me this is one of the only professions that the general public don't seem to bothered that these guys make good money (and deserve it IMO). Wear away!!!

I'm not a doctor, but would have no trouble seeing a Daytona on my doctor's wrist. I'd be more interested in how many doctors wear a watch having a pulsometric scale, like the ALS 1815.
And if I had a job where I had to worry about gunk getting into my Rolex I might consider something else for the 'office'. |

The only problem I see is giving your WIS patients heart palpitations.
