I saw one about that size get run over by an 18 wheeler in the mid-90's. They aren't rare, though may be rarely seen wandering the countryside.

I live part time in the "top end" of Australia. Compared to our crocs... that guy is kinda small.

We are certainly blessed with some wonderful reptiles. And I am truly delighted whenever I come across one whilst running in remote locations.

It is the introduced boar, cattle and buffalo that scare me though.

It's real. And while uncommon to see them that large, certainly not unheard of. Gators are everywhere in FL, we have some in the canal behind our house. There was a 5-6 footer sunning out there just yesterday.

LOL, Mon. We have a fence so it's just live and let live around here.

Although we do choose to only let our small dog on the screened in lanai vs. into the full-on backyard, since we aren't totally convinced the gators feel similarly 😂

When I lived in Florida, I saw a 6 foot gator climb a four foot chain link fence to get to a small dog in a back yard. A coworker once came home to an 8 footer on his screened porch having pushed its way through the screen.

They can be a real PITA. But deep fried gator tail is worth the inconvenience IMO.

Depends on your definition of quick, I suppose. But yes, they can move. Generally, though, they have no interest in attacking humans except in very particular circumstances.

Yep, we're clear that if one decided he or she was coming into the backyard, our fence wouldn't stop it. That's why we're careful with our dog, and we don't leave her unattended, even on the screened lanai.

I hate gators! They always manage to scare the out of me when I'm golfing in s fl. I'm sure locals get used to them but I'm accustomed to not having any large predators in my neck of the woods!

Couldn't tell you if it's real or not but I have a brother who lives near Daytona Beach. His house has an in-ground pool and he told me don't ever jump in without looking first. I said look for what? He said, an alligator.

The gator is real. It is located in the Circle B nature preserve in the Lakeland, Winter Haven area in central Florida.

There's a 16" gator at buffalo creek golf course in palmetto Fl. which I play at regularly. I'm still waiting to snap a picture. When I do, you can be sure I'll post it!!
