Which Vintage Onega Is This?
This was the Watch given to the players at the 1963 Cotton Bowl, so it would have been on sale in 1962, and the jeweler would have stamped the Cotton Bowl logo on the dial. It's amazing the quality of watch they used to give these kids. Does anybody know the dial and movement? Thanks.

It will be either a cal 560 or 562, probably a 562. Dial is reminiscent of some models of Seamaster and also Generic Omegas. The dial would have been produced by a contracter to the then Omega agent, Norman Morris. Commemoration watches were a service offered by the US agent and there are a variety of examples that can be seen from that period.
Only way to fully identify the model is the have a look at the inner case back. Cheers Desmond

Thank you very much. I'm trying to make a list of Texas Longhorns bowl game watches, and rank their horological significance/quality. Nowadays, they're all Quartz movements but back in the day, there were some really neat watches handed out- solid gold Bulovas, stainless steel Universal Geneves, automatic Hamiltons, Rolex Datejusts and Tudor Day-dates. Now, is it wise to give a physically aggressive 20 year old man a nice watch? That's another question altogether.
Edited- I did some looking and it appears that all the 562 movement watches in my quick scan had date windows. Would Omega use a 562 on a watch without a date window? |

yes youre right, I inadvertently wrote cal 562 when meaning cal 550 or 552 which were the non date versions of the mid-500 series of calibres.
Cheers Desmond
