Daytona 116520 or AP 15400st?

IMG_4350.jpg

Big dilemma here, since I've got my Daytona, few days ago, my best friend who's a watch enthusiast also, keeps bugging me to make an exchange with him, more exactly he wants to give me for the Daytona his 2016 AP 15400st white face. Both this watches were on my wish list for some time, but the Rolex popped up first. I must mention that I only have left two watches in my collection, the ssDaytona and a Ceramic Submariner date. Any advice opinion is more than welcomed.

Is he asking for any money on top? The AP is worth at least a couple of grand more than your Daytona...

No money involved in this transaction. His AP has no box or papers.

Big fan of both here but in AP RO, I much prefer the 39mm.. just better symmetry for me.

I'd make that trade. AP 15400 is on my wishlist. Bottom line, though, is that you have to like it. Financially, you're making out ahead. Daytona C would be more even given secondary market pricing.

I agree with Red's comment above. I think the 15400 is slightly too big, the 39mm is perfect, however that's more cash.

I vote for keeping the Daytona - it's a great watch and IMHO more versatile. You can always add an AP later - a 39mm RO and a Daytona would be a killer duo.

After owning a 15400, I would keep the 520. The Daytona just felt more proportional on my wrist.

I'd take this anyway over a Daytona. Why no box and papers though if from 2016?

I own both the 116520WSO and the 116610LN - there's a reason for that! I think you should keep the Daytona, for sure. I was thinking about adding a Royal Oak, but wound up with the Sub instead.

How old is your Daytona? Price-wise, I don't think the RO is worth "thousands" more.

It is preowned, bought from a multi brand dealer from Bucharest. What I meant was no original box or papers. He has the acquisition invoice and a certificate issued by the seller.

Mine is 2016, last batch of ss Daytona, if I it is correct to say that.

Was the watch manufacturered in 2016 or just purchased in 2016. If the watch is due for a service it could be a painful service bill so take that into account.

Although I really enjoy the AP aesthetic, I am going to say keep your wonder watch and wait for your AP to follow when the time is right. You may miss your Daytona. Unless you both will allow visitation...

Chadri that pic makes me drool. If I get to the point where I can purchase one, choosing between the white, black, and blue dials would be agonizing.

I wouldn't do the trade, but it's just a matter of your personal preferences.

AP is definitely perceived as a more high-end brand and its built quality is amazing. On the other hand, Daytona is more interesting because of its chronograph complication and its movement is hands-down among the best in business, if not THE best.

If you like the AP more (I don't, Daytona's design simply sings to me more), then do it, you certainly cannot go wrong since both are amazing pieces.

Tough call. I think I would take all the valuations out of the equation and just look at which watch appeals to you more on an aesthetic level.

Both watches will have strong followings on here, so asking our opinions is just going to give you a bunch of differing thoughts.

Tough call. Was leaning towards the AP at first, but based on this picture, I'd go with the Daytona. Still pretty close though.

Keep your Daytona if it's a full set. I don't like buying modern watches without box and papers. I don't think it's an unfair deal just wouldn't want an incomplete AP.

I tried on the 15400 white dial recently didn't like the white dial personally but it's a far superior watch to the Daytona do the swap

Stay with your Daytona if you were the first owner and have the full set.
The AP is very nice but I think the Daytona just beats it.
